Masturbation abstinence as a meme is popular online, but I doubt actual abstinence is.
It might have started off that way, but it could easily go out of control and become a genuine movement.
Flat Earth originally started as a joke arguing for something silly and easily disproven, and look at how that’s gone.
So you still think you live on a magic twirling space ball or what?
As I understand flat earth is a religious thing.
Browse something like r/nofap. If that is a joke, a lot of those commentators have a Leslie Nielsen level straight face.
I know someone who religiously follows it, because he constantly discloses when he’s doing it (all the time). It’s very real
I’m pretty sure that was a group that started as a support forum for porn addicts, but it looks like it has been taken over by some real fanatics. Perhaps religious people? The core message still seems to be about porn addiction, but full abstinence is a harmful path it is sidetracking to, which is why I suspect there is some kind of hidden religious agenda by the mods.
Nofap is honestly reaching cult like status.
It’s especially ironic when it’s been proven that regular (not excessive) levels of masturbation is actually good for your prostate and similar.
NoFap was reaching cult territory five years ago when I found it. Its insane side is already ingrained in their identity and probably has been since its inception.
r/NoFap is unironically just a bunch of undiagnosed ADHDs realizing what happens when you stop relying on constantly flooding your brain with dopamine as a default
