Over 2 percent of the US’s electricity generation now goes to bitcoin::US government tracking the energy implications of booming bitcoin mining in US.
The article is inaccurate and misleading according to their own source of information: “Our preliminary estimates suggest that annual electricity use from cryptocurrency mining probably represents from 0.6% to 2.3% of U.S. electricity consumption.”
All cryptocurrencies together may make up 0.6% of US energy consumption according to their own source, Bitcoin would only be a portion of that. With that said it’s obviously a problem that Bitcoin is using so much electricity.
