The owners of a container ship that crashed into Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge have been ordered to pay the US government more than $100m (£77.1m) in damages, the US justice department has announced.
Grace Ocean Private Limited and Synergy Marine Private Limited, the companies that owned and operated the Dali have agreed to pay, resolving a month-long civil lawsuit.
The justice department called the 26 March collision that killed six and sent tonnes of debris into the river “one of the worst transportation disasters in recent memory”.
Payment will go to the US Treasury and other federal agencies directly affected by the collision or involved in the response.
Imo not having any safety measures for the bridge piers was extremely negligent. There was this picture where you’d see cable masts next to the bridge that were being secured by extra thick concrete islands (you can actually spot one in the headline image). Really makes it look like the safety of some cables was more important than the safety of a bridge / people.
Alex jones got hit worse than this
While I agree that this amount is too low, I think Alex Jones has done more damage.
This is only for the disaster recovery efforts.
There is more to come.
Let’s hope!!
Makes sense, Alex Jones is worse than this.
Sigh, the settlement won’t cover much of the rebuild, which is supposedly estimated to be around 1.9 billon, nearly 2 billion.
The bridge is owned by Maryland, and they are also suing for the reconstruction of the bridge. This settlement was for the disaster recovery effort.
This was completely separate from the suit to rebuild the bridge, as per the article. People really need to read the articles instead of glancing at headlines and feeling the need to comment something ignorant.
“one of the worst transportation disasters… (He trails off realizing) In recent memory!”
