    I infer there is some history of it being politicized in my state.

    At one meeting early on, my kid’s teacher described this program to me and I said, “Yes, phonics. That’s phonics you’re describing.”

    (dramatic eyeroll by the teacher)

    stage whisper: “It is. We just don’t call it that.”

    I weep for the state of education in this country.
