I’m getting tired of the heavy-handed moderation tactics used by people like Jordunlund for lemmy.world. It seems like most mods don’t really care about their rules and will remove posts and ban people they don’t like because they can.

Where can I find instances that don’t do this? It’s fine if I have to read people saying things I don’t like or make me uncomfortable; if it really bothers me I can just block them and move on.

I don’t want people like Jordunlund dictating what I get to see, though.

Edit: It’s really sad how many of you get angry at the thought of someone who doesn’t want random people on the internet cenosoring things from them. I chalk this up mostly to the snowball effect taking hold. Most of you only know censorship and people who support it, so you’re going to do the same to look good in front of your peers.

Hopefully we can get more lemmy and fediverse instances that allow people to say what they want.

Censorship works, which is why so many of you have been conditioned to like it.

You people should look at nations that don’t allow freedom of speech to see that kind of culture that you’re really fighting for. I guarantee most of the people getting upset at the idea wouldn’t like to live in places like Iran, Russia, or North Korea.

And of course, not a single person gave an actual answer or even tried to stay on topic.

I had just gotten banned from Reddit for saying people who hurt kids should face stiffer penalties legally. (They said I was threatening violence.) So freedom of speech was importance when choosing an instance.

The one I chose — I think you can see it by my name? — is a little anarchic, but seems to be a good fit? Still working that out. I don’t really feel I need more freedom of speech online than the average person, but it’s nice to have just the same.

    You have three options

    1. Try and find a new instance, create an account, post bullshit and get banned (Lemmy is federated, your instance matters mostly based on what other instances federate with it)
    2. Set up your own instance, start federating, post bullshit, get banned and possibly have your entire instance defederated. (Lemmy is federated, your instance matters mostly based on what other instances federate with it)
    3. Stop posting bullshit, and contribute to a better social interaction here.

Personally I’d recommend 3, but you can absolutely try combining 3 with 1 or 2.

If you don’t find one that fits your particular wants, you could start a Lemmy (or Mbin, or PieFed) instance that follows whatever rules you want. If it’s targeting a particular policy, might make it explicit in the instance sidebar/rules/etc.

Ah, you want the Nazi bar.

After Exploding Heads were left with no-one but themselves, and decided they weren’t worth it, I don’t know where it moved to. I thought Hilarious Chaos was a thing but Google isn’t pulling it up.

I left lemmy.world for dbzer0 a while ago for similar reasons. Between World and Hexbear, I don’t know which is more thin-skinned or dictatorial. Ironically, I created my account here before I was on world, I just never used it.

In any case, I hear you.

I also might suggest reviewing what you write and see if it’s caustic. I don’t care to look, so I won’t review your stuff. But if you tend to be downvoted more than not, maybe it’s you.

Sorry, your freedom of speech doesn’t override our freedom to not give a shit about your fascism.

I’m not being condescending, but “Freedom of speech” is, subjectively, the most subjective of all common English phrases.
So finding an instance that aligns precisely with your subjective (ever-changing) ‘freedom of speech’ definitions depends on your flexibilities, but you’ll never escape others’ f.o.s. parameters.
You can also spin up your own instance, but then others may just defederate if they don’t like your subjectiveness.

Cute. Create a brand new account for this question so we can’t check the modlogs and see exactly what you’re talking about. Instead of playing the victim, maybe do a little self reflection on why YOUR comments keep getting removed, and yet nobody else seems to have that problem.

I’ve never had a comment removed or be banned outside of /c/ADHD or something like that which banned me for instructions on how to safely self-medicate based on how I did it amongst the shortage, which is fairly fucked up on their part tbf.

I’m rarely silenced here (5 removed comments in over 1000?) and my ideology is pretty much the opposite of the average Lemming. I agree with you that the best way to go about discussions online is to block someone you find offensive but, if you don’t mind me asking, what exactly are you posting that’s getting nuked on the regular?

ELI5 How did freedom of speech ended up being a term used by neo-nazi and other people who oppose other’s fundamental freedom (including free speech) as soon as they can

Nobody is going to ban you for post which state reasonable opinion, even if you state that private insurance in healthcare and regulated immigration are a good think but people aren’t happy when you advocate genocide or don’t want queer people around kids

The neo-nazi playbook is to use benign language to soften their otherwise unpalatable ideology.

Want to create an echo-chamber where the worst politicians can do whatever they want? “States rights”.
Want to disguise the racism as patriotic? “America first”.
Want to be able to say anything, any time, and play the victim card when people call out the bullshit? “Free speech”.

They’re a troll account who has posted several thousand times in the past 24 hours and keeps getting shut down by both myself and lemmy.world admins.

In just the past few hours:

      https://lemmy.cafe/u/MandiHanks
      https://lemmings.world/u/ZioDumbokrat69
      https://lemmy.cafe/u/LEMMY_DEMOCRACY_NOW

But seriously, they are a no-lifer who was baned for cause months ago and has since created HUNDREDS of throwaway accounts that get banned immediately, also for cause.

It’s sad watching you be so confidently wrong while in a position of power. This is why you don’t deserve it and we need better instances.

You’ll only have yourself to blame.

And yet you keep saying the same things that get you banned over and over again…

Jesus, thousands of posts in a day and hundreds of accounts? There has to be automation there. Even if you’re using automated tools to moderate, what a pain in the dick. Cheers for keeping the chuds like this asshole at bay.
