I’m kinda relieved I’m finally paying a mortgage now instead of rent. My last apartment that I lived in for close to 5 years used RealPage for the past 3 and I’ve never seen rent prices go down even when the news was saying rent was going down across my city. And whenever I tried to negotiate rent during renewal, all the leasing office would say it that the system dictates it and they can’t do anything about it. So you literally had no way to negotiate/bargain/haggle no matter how good of a renter you are.

Rents in my area have gone up 60% in the past 4 years and lots of people I know can no longer afford to rent the homes they own, nor could they afford to buy them now. A fixed rate mortgage makes housing expenses stable for decades. That’s something that is almost never considered when comparing renting and owning.
