It’s a real shame; Irvine has lots of great food, and it’s another large east-Asian population center within the LA-OC metro area, but it’s also so staunchly Republican that I can’t stand to watch local news down there.

That’s nothing against the university, though. I have family who got their degrees there, and I even took summer classes on campus once. I dig the school and it was my fallback when I applied for colleges (back when it was possible to have a fallback).

The study is published in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology & Metabolism, which the Oxford Academic collects and reproduces for their academic press.

While I agree that he should be ridiculed for a statement like that, it’s obvious that the attendees at the RNC are supportive of that statement. To them, America doesn’t have deep-seated issues with race. Instead, America has the opposite! Honestly, avoiding the all feed may be better for my enjoyment of the platform. On Reddit I used to just sub to my specific interests and never interacted or saw all the politics talk or general memes. When I moved here, most communities were too quiet for it to take up the same spot for me, so I started browsing by all instead.

The Sierra Redwood can reproduce sexually (seeds in cones) as early as 24 years old, but one source I found said that seeds are usually not high-quality until the tree is 200+ years old. It also takes about a 2-year maturation period within the cone before being ready for planting. Other types of redwoods can reproduce asexually, which may have an effect on the rate of expression of the mutated genes.

A generation just has to be the age gap between a plant and a plant from any of its seeds. So if a tree can start to flower and drop seeds around year 3, then it’s as minimal as a 3-year gap between “generations”.

It depends on what I’m trying to maximize.

If I just want the happiness spike ASAP, then I would just buy $15 worth of Magic cards, or maybe a booster pack or three, depending on the set.

If I’m trying to maximize my overall happiness over any amount of time, I think spending $15 on something reusable, like a nice pair of socks or a hat would work out for me.

If I want to maximize happiness in general, then spending it on someone else I care about does double duty. It makes someone else happy, and I get happiness from being involved in the process.

To be more specific, there are 4 time zones in the contiguous 48 states: Pacific, Mountain, Central, and Eastern. Alaska is also one hour behind Pacific, and Hawaii (usually) one hour behind Alaskan. But Hawaii also doesn’t observe daylight savings time.

This also doesn’t account for how some states (like Arizona) don’t observe DST while Navajo Nation (in Arizona) does, while Hopi land (surrounded by Navajo) doesn’t.
