Not really, there’s certainly a compromise where glasses level sized tech could be very appealing to a lot of people
Why does it need to be the open source version?
The issue is the platforms aren’t competing, because shows can exclusively be on one platform only and you need to be subscribed to watch it, so you end up with the current landscape of services that instead of competing with each other make it so you need all of them to get a full experience. Alternative playstores might face similar issues, but you don’t need to pay to download multiple stores and apps don’t have exclusivity deals to one app store
They’ve lobbied before

Similar thing happening Romania too, it’s disheartening but in a country where the meat industry was already hit hard I can understand the economic reasons behind it, but that doesn’t mean I’m a fan of it.
Of course a lot of people are also just afraid of anything synthetic and “unnatural”, falling into the same category as GMOs.
Maybe if they hadn’t already harvest my data for decades. Now that it’s no longer as profitable they want me to pay to just avoid being nagged?
As a UI designer, no it’s not just them. We need to know how people are using features to know if we should prioritise or deprioritise work on them and what work we might want to put in them.
