  • I’m in one of the bluest. Our police and FBI are not “blue.” American spy forces and “committee on anti-American activities”-ass motherfuckers are not kind or just, no matter the voting tendencies of the populace.

How many decades have we seen far right terror groups overlooked for anti-capitalist leftists? The left threatens the status quo, the right fortifies it. The blue and red dichotomy is the status quo. The democrats support the genocide in Palestine. Going against that status quo makes you not safe from government crackdowns, the party in power is completely irrelevant.

  • You guys can’t think there are seriously paid bots on lemmy. There are like 10,000 users. It’s basically a niche message board. Reddit is a valuable target because it has millions of users. Facebook, instagram, Twitter. These places are being astroturfed. But lemmy? I honestly don’t believe it. It doesn’t even have a core of users in any particular country. The small user base is spread all over the world. It just isn’t a target of these campaigns.

People are complicated. Everyone always points to “all that anti Kamala talk ended right after the election!” Yeah, maybe a lot of the pro-Palestinian anti Kamala people saying they wouldn’t vote for her stopped speaking so publicly because the reality of the other option sunk in. That doesn’t mean those people are paid trolls or bots. It means their argument got much more difficult when trump started plotting out his Gaza hotel. Those feelings are still legitimate. The feeling of not being able to sign your name to the lesser of two evils when that “lesser” is still funding and arming the genocidal force. People couldn’t swallow that on a personal level. But as soon as trump was elected, because it was one of two options, for the sake of not being angrily brigades, people stopped talking about it.

It’s a much more nuanced issue than bots on lemmy.

  • Yeah, I mean outside the US WhatsApp is basically texting for everyone I’ve met. It’s definitely accomplished that. I just can’t imagine something that massive not being used to spy. Especially given that it’s free. I don’t imagine they’re above reading messages. Because all of that server power and access worldwide, they’re definitely prying somehow. Like we are just now finding out they’ve been circumventing VPNs and all methods to block their cookies? It’s literally impossible they’re not prying data out of WhatsApp users.

  • Yeah but I just meant that when he turns around, the second one looks less doofy and contorted. I thought someone behind him would’ve been filming on their phones, I’m just surprised there were no phone videos from anyone over there. I wanted to see someone’s from that other angle. It’s weird there was only one video of it, I figured those assclowns would be relishing in having such a “le epic” moment recorded.

You can just tell that he was thinking “I’m gonna do it! It’s gonna be such a master troll!” So he overthought the first one and it’s almost so lacquered in false confidence while the second one he just kinda doesn’t overcommit, if that makes sense.

I fully agree, it was 100% a Nazi salute. Both of them. I just wanted to see another angle on that second one.

  • Because no matter the business, the game is capitalism. Who has the cutthroat, borderline personality to “make the tough calls” (read: weigh the cost benefit analysis of screwing the next group of people).

It doesn’t matter what the business is. Because it’s just about cost and benefit to these people. If they can cut costs, they will. If the benefits are lacking in that people will be outraged enough to stop buying, or the lawsuits will cost more than the profit increase percentage (factored into the actual viability of the claims and the affected group’s buying power for legal representation), then they don’t do it.

Nowhere does “but is it right” factor in. It’s only “will people find out, and if they do can we weather the storm.”

    Capitalism should die.
