Palestinians were fucked regardless. The choice was between fucked super hard and fast or fucked super hard and fast but with a pier that doesn’t work at delivering aid and then collapses.

It’s fine if you’re careful. I never got Lasik because you can only get it once and it only lasts 10-15 years until your eyesight degrades again. Then it’s back to glasses or contacts. Especially after 45-50 when it really goes downhill.
I skipped Lasik because my yearly contacts cost is 120 €, which over 15 years would net me 1800€. Lasik was quoted to me at 5000 € for both eyes. You could be a statistical fortuity and it lasts more than 15 years, but considering you get used to something it’s not permanent and have to change back i figured might as well stick with lenses.
There’s also orthokerathology, which is some rigid contacts you use only when sleeping that shape your eyes for up to 48 hours so you see well. They’re more expensive than contacts, cheaper than lasik and much safer because you only sleep with them. Alas, i can’t wear those because my astigmatism is too high for current technology, but i hear they’re getting better with it.
FYI if you use contacts (from https://www.allaboutvision.com/contacts/acanthamoeba-keratitis.htm with some extra tidbits from other websites i found while getting informed about this)
Never use tap water with your contact lenses. The FDA has recommended that contact lenses should not be exposed to water of any kind.
Do not swim, shower or use a hot tub while wearing contacts. If you do decide to wear your lenses while swimming, wear airtight swim goggles over them.
Soak your lenses in fresh disinfecting solution every night. Don’t use a wetting solution or saline solution that isn’t intended for disinfection.
Always wash your hands before handling your lenses.
Always clean your contacts immediately upon removal (unless you are wearing disposable contact lenses that are replaced daily). To clean your lenses, rub the lenses under a stream of multipurpose solution – even if using a “no-rub” solution – and store them in a clean case filled with fresh (not “topped off”) multipurpose or disinfecting solution.
Wash your case with solution and not tap water.
Replace your case at least once every 3 months with a new one.
And if you do get a red eye with a burning sensation and blurry vision that does not go away and you use contacts, do remind your doctor that you’re specifically worried about acanthamoeba and would like to make sure that you’re not at risk, as this woman visited several ophthalmologists every 2 days and not one of them thought about it. The treatment was eye drops. Now she is blind and needs a transplant.
Man, some days i just feel second-hand embarrassment for Germany. Get it together guys, goddamn. Germany has been in a pretty sad state of affairs for so long lately.
I tried looking around but this humble soul doesn’t have much in the way of receiving donations. I suggest contacting him via https://github.com/Catfriend1 to ask for an alternative and if he gets back to you, share it here for other people who dislike paypal.
Fyi the syncthing-fork guy (catfriend1) who’s still updating has a donating button on F-droid via Liberapay. It’s up to you if your financial situation allows you to donate, but the more of us help the remaining developers for their time, in particular those of us that rely so much on their work, the better off we’ll be. Let’s give them a little motivation to keep working on this.
FYI2 syncthing-fork (as written and confirmed in this thread) has an import button for your folders from syncthing Android.
ESA is the European Space Agency. It’s a pretty prominent acronym. They really couldn’t bother researching it before registering their little butthurt group? Imagine making a corporate group and calling it NASA.
This app was incredibly important to me. I don’t really understand what the developer was saying about Google Play either. What does Google want from him?
I’ll be saving this post for all the suggestions in the comments. Hopefully, a viable alternative presents itself. I’ve been making a lot of tech illiterate friends reliant on this app, and they’re going to be asking me for an alternative.
From the point of view of efficiency, solar heaters beat pv. With pv you need to convert the sun’s energy into electrical energy, with losses, then convert electrical energy into heat by extracting it from the outside with the heat pump. If you store it in batteries to heat up water later, there’s even more losses. Depending on the outside temperature, there’s a limit to what the heat pump can do, which an internal electric heater inside the water tank takes over to reach usable shower temperature.
With solar heating the sun heats water, that’s it. Not only you can yield energy from the sun more efficiently, this doesn’t need complex electronics or semiconductors, so it’s also better from an environmental impact point of view.
And it doesn’t have to be either/or. In my country, solar heating usually comes as a package deal with pv heating. Some companies are making hybrid pvs. Solar panels become less efficient as they heat up, so a hybrid pv would use coolant to keep them within their most efficient working temperature and extract that heat to be used for space heating, using radiators or floor heating or forced air systems, and/or water heating. Having both just makes sense, since it makes your pv needs (and your upfront investment) smaller and the maintenance on solar heaters is much simpler.
This specic post October attack Israeli incursion, genocide and massive land grab will be Joe Biden’s legacy. Nothing he did or will do will shine a candle light on this.
Cuba - sponsor of terrorism, hasn’t done a single act of terror in generations.
Israel - not a sponsor of terrorism, used pagers and walkie talkies to kill several hundreds of people, some of which literal children.
Yeah, ok US.
And thrown a flashbang into a nearby stroller with a sleeping baby inside.
This is why stand your ground laws can’t realistically exist in places that aren’t sparsely populated. Because someone will read “defend your property and life with force if necessary” as “act as a raging lunatic and attempt to shoot anyone who comes at the door because it’s legal to do so if you claim you were defending your property, even though there was no indication of actual imminent danger to property or people”.
Quit complaining, cause the aliens are coming in next, probes blazing.
Even if such a thing existed, which given the analysis parameters makes it far too complex for automation (like for instance, how would such a software distinguish between old deleted data still residing in empty space and a vault file hidden in empty space without a follow up analysis of the data itself. It would probably alert the user for something, but the amount of false positives would probably lead an untrained user to ignore the alerts eventually) i would guess it doesn’t, but if it did, it would have to process petabytes every day, from all over the country and the system would have to be maintained, which going by government record of informatics systems, doesn’t seem likely that it would be readily available for everyone that gets stopped at a border stop consistently. It’s like an anti virus search, with all the false positives it comes up with, but 100 times slower, plus the transmission of the entire disk clone file, plus the cloning process itself.
Moreover the cost of maintaining such a system when 95%+ of the population doesn’t have the know how to use complex data obfuscation measures and LEO rarely obtains information out of these cursory searches for arrests. On published news articles LEO always ends up using snitches, google searches or usage of the TOR network in a given area to catch criminals. Data forensics only come into play later on. Presumably, dollar for dollar, they would probably invest in what works best instead of casting such a wide net.
In sum, I’m not cleared to know such information, but i am guessing such a thing, while technologically possible, seems economically unfeasible and liable to be used only in specific cases. If i had a border security budget, i would certainly not invest in a mega server to swift through every bit of empty and occupied space of all the randomly selected people for a search that come in through the ports of entry. However i could be wrong.
I think you overvalue the skillset of border security. This may seem trivial to you but it’s uncommon to hire people trained to this level of competence and put them at every point of entry. A decent cybersecurity investigator needs a big salary.
That would probably happen if you were already a suspect of something or a high profile person and they moved in resources for you. No way border security is randomly sweeping for headers and entropy, they basically just look at it with the explorer and clone it, possibly using some software to scan for known security vulnerabilities to access encrypted parts. That would be a court ordered search or a high profile crime investigation, or maybe a really really unlucky day where the expert was already there for another reason, but the rest i agree.
If your threat model makes you a high profile person, then smuggling data in hidden containers is definitely not the best solution. A non associated personal cloud server is best.
Okay i understand your point. Thank you for explaining it in a different way.
So the point is not wealth but spite ? You don’t have to act in good faith to cooperate with others. Like i said, in trade, a prosperous peer is worth more and generates more wealth than an ailing one.
This is not an argument on good faith, it’s self interest and selfishness. It’s right there on game theory and pretty much the entire course of biological history and evolution. One might profit from destroying and seizing the resources of a peer, but in most cases that profit is inferior to quid pro quo cooperation.
To me this is just acting deranged and nonsensical. Just being belligerent for the sake of cruelty and destruction. It’s more believable to me that its motivations are about projection of power and hegemony like other commenters have pointed out.
This kind of behavior is harmful to the legitimacy of journalism itself and entirely self defeating at pushing an agenda.
When journalism is mistrusted, misinformation is boosted. When people find out information is misrepresented, they will seek out other sources and be less likely to believe information even when it is legitimate.
We all lost today and the significance of this loss has not dawned on the news agencies. I really hope they don’t come crying again about how journalism is dying because people don’t care for buying newspapers anymore.
I really hope at some point we go back to the apolitical, strict facts representation and unbiased coverage of events. That’s what journalism is supposed to be. Not this tailored version of events reporting that we often get.
