  • Life is too much. If you have time for open source other parts of your life are being ignored. Do you want to be a detail obsessed nerd alone in your room fighting with 50 different things that need a special configuration that you’ll eventually get bored of and need to clean up the mess anyway? I’m so depressed and am now realizing that privacy and open source stuff is just another distraction from reality. I genuinely don’t know how others manage in life, it’s so much bigger and more vast than a screen. It’s overwhelming.

  • What if the “internet” became the platform it truly is and was originally envisioned to be? What if there were a “federated” network of local, regional mesh networks each with their own management, hosting activitypub instances and other open source decentralized protocols for such communities to use like the original concept of a town square and “local businesses”, without the abtract notion of far away datacenters removing people psychologically from the real-world impact that grassroots SaaS organizations serving their communities along with open forums can have? What if instead of ads within this intranet being promoted and tracked by large corporations in Delaware, silicon valley and elsewhere, they were limited to the businesses in that area? And were used to fund the network’s infrastructure and make it free for everyone? And this wouldn’t be a replacement for the internet as it exists, just an augmentation running on top of it, like a parallel structure.

  • I don’t think I’ll ever find people like that because they literally do not fucking exist outside of the people you grew up with and even that isn’t a guarantee. College is for the privileged in this wonderful country anyway so if you find yourself among the desperate masses they’ll just claw and gnash their teeth at you like the rabid dogs they are. No friendship or kindness to be found among them. Not because they’re bad people, but because they’re disadvantaged by a system that pits them against one another.
