Why do you think they’re trying to make one legal and the other not?

Live here and drove across the country, KC traffic is some of the nicer traffic compared to most major metros.
But part of what to understand with the shit police we have is helpful to explain that Kansas City is one of the only two metros that doesn’t have control over its PD (the other is St. Louis, which Missouri just took back over this year). So in the city, the police are ran by a 5 person panel, 1 is the mayor, the other 4 are picked by the governor.
And since we’ve had nothing but right wing nutjobs for mayors for the past 3, they love to go after the “liberal cities” which means it’s in their favor to be easy on the police in all forms, and what can the people in the city going to do about it? The answer is as long as the city doesn’t have control over it, then fuck all.
I love how when I was hearing about them looking at this, I was getting responses from people “It requires congressional approval” over and over. This is my shocked face.
Shhh, don’t let the MAGAs hear this. It’s hilarious.
Take the guns first and due process later
This was 2018.
So on your question on if they will have a moment of self reflection, I’m going to go with a no.
What’s funny is the flipside to it… Telgram is absolutely fucking full of furries so grok’s gonna learn a shitload of gay leftist shit too.
By sought after I mean the hospitals searching for us. As you say, my hospital is bringing in high schoolers to intern because the industry basically has no pipeline for workers because most of the old guard are still there but retiring and/or dying off so suddenly there’s a massive lack in a very tiny pool caused by it basically not being advertised until very recently.
Hell, even moving to another state is an expense most americans can not afford. Especially with the absurdity of rent prices being, in some places, as much as monthy minimum wage is, if not higher.
OH MY GOD THANK YOU! So many people don’t get that when you’re in a shitty red state it’s REALLY REALLY hard to get out because someone making California wages has absolute way more than we do. Sure, they’re broke as shit there because the prices are high, and that sucks, but then if you’re coming from Missouri to California, the phrase “fucked” doesn’t even begin to cover it.
It’s telling that I say I clawed my way out of Arkansas and Missouri was my “better”
The captain of your sinking country is throwing citizens overboard, and you remain in line? Move!?
Hahahahahahaha… you sound like one of our republicans.
I work as a biomed, a sector of repairing medical equipment that is a sought after career field, desperately needed. Been doing it for five years, and I like to think I’m damn good at my job.
I also only have an associates degree.
There are not many countries that will take me with only that associates degree. It’s like I tell conservatives who do the “Don’t like it, move”, being from the US isn’t some special wonderful status that gets us open doors into other countries. Other countries don’t want us like the Republicans don’t want foreigners from other countries, unless they’re wealthy.
Roughly 160 years behind the 8 ball on fixing the country.
Gonna disagree there, gamers can’t give up pre-ordering games through studios that regularly bait and switch and throwing money at the biggest AAA studios.
So he learned from the video gaming industry?
So, did travel work for my job. Driving long distances was a normal thing, company van.
Had to go to corporate for a training thing. After that, to get home and flying, took me 14 hours. The drive is 12.
Next time I had to get to corporate, company tried to get me a plane ticket and I refused, each time boss tried any reasoning it was responded with “14 GODDAMN HOURS!” I got to drive.
I like flying… as in the act of flying. But I refuse to fly anywhere in a 12 hour driving radius because the entire song and dance before and after I have found maybe I save an hour or two… and I am FAR LESS in a murdery mood.
Frankly over a 12 hour driving distance I still start looking at logistics.
I’ve picked up the gardening hobby and actually seem to be keeping up with it.
Nothing like a crisis where food is looking to be a concern to get ones ass in gear.
For a lot of us even before the election. Yup.
In 2020 I was moving into my house. Late night moving, 3am, I needed food. There’s a McDs across the street. A’ight. Gonna have to happen. Get the shitty little cheeseburgers that’s always been a dollar… no wait, they’re not on the dollar menu… actually there’s no dollar menu… fuck it… there’s the meal for them.
The two shitty cheeseburgers, small fries, small drink, over $8 plus tax.
I’ve never been back to one since.
I don’t think I’d ever leave the makerspace.
Well… fuck.
I mean there’s a lot of us already on that team.
If you didn’t get the reference, Cassandra was given the gift of prophecy but cursed so that her true prophecies would not be believed. She goes out and tells people of what’s coming and she’s ignored. She warns that if Helen is brought back to Troy, it’ll be the fall of Troy in the Trojan War. She warned the Trojans to not accept the gift horse from the Greeks but we all know how that worked out. That sort of thing.
So yes, there’s a lot of people on “Team Cassandra” who’s been saying the shit that’s coming is going to come, we’ve been laughed at, mocked and told we’re overreacting then told we’re not doing enough when exactly the things that anyone with basic pattern recognition and a high school history learning could predict.
Once Kansas City had apparently a fantastic streetcar. Then the car companies bought it up and tore out the rails. Now we’re getting a streetcar being built again but it’s just doing downtown on one street. I’m not near the streetcar.
So I drive to work. It’s 12 miles, about 30 minutes (or 20 miles, 30 minutes if I take interstate around the city… honestly this city is weird, EVERYTHING is 30 minutes away.) If I wanted to take the bus, the shortest time frame would be 1 hr 35 minutes… not including that I’d have to get halfway there to get to the first bus stop.
Cities… if I wanted to take the train, I can go to Chicago for relatively cheap using Amtrak… but gotta plan that 3 months in advance, and the 8 hour ride we HOPE doesn’t get extended because Amtrak doesn’t own the rails it’s on. Flipside, driving is 8 hours. Other cities, St. Louis, Wichita, basically I have two train lines, one in state, and one cross country. If I want to go to Denver… it’s not happening.
So to answer your question, I want you to try to imagine how bad you think our public transportation is. Then lower your expectations.
