Maybe in asking to be flayed, but I’ll bite too.

I’m personally considering renting out my home when I go for grad school. I’d have to be renting elsewhere, but I intend to return.

I can’t really sell the house. I wouldn’t get enough from the sale to buy another home and I bought it at a much lower interest rate than available. I basically wouldn’t be able to afford a home again after grad school.

I’m not wealthy by any means, and couldn’t afford for the home to sit vacant. Right now I’m offering it to a family member for what they pay in a bad neighborhood for rent to help them get ahead a bit. I’d still be getting less than the mortgage, even if I did rent it out through a company and not the family member.

I want to further my education and keep my home, but I can’t afford a mortgage for an empty property and rent elsewhere.

Is this truly a bad thing?
