The ability for communities across different instances behave like one. We don’t need ten different communities doing the exact same thing.

We don’t need to be as big as Facebook but three or four times more users would probably be ideal.

Are there any topics that are majorly split? I’m pretty sure just like on reddit when two subs had similar names one eventually gets bigger and dominates. I don’t see how it’s going to be much different here.

Ooo, I like this. But there would need to be checks to make sure it isn’t abused. You wouldn’t want some troll community saying it’s associated with gaming, or any similar scenario.

Yea I wonder about this too.

Major problem is that fracturing is in the nature of decentralised federation. So my thinking is that what’s needed is some additional features that enable users to easily stitch together multiple communities in ways that are easily sharable or “upload-able”.

      Personalised multi-communities + (better) cross-post surfacing + cross-post comment folding …

… could go fair I suspect. If multi-communities like this could then be easily configured, you could then have downloadable setups (ie config files or something similar) recommended by users or alliances of communities for new users to easily get started.

Interestingly, I’d wonder if such a feature set were to exist and gain widespread traction, whether it would enable easier community migrations when things go south in a community.
