I haven’t made the switch yet, and I want to know if Linux can run my favorite games.

Even if a game doesn’t look like it’ll work based on protondb, try it anyway. Many times I’ve had games that were marked as low ratings start up without any changes lol. I remember even when d4 beta came out, I saw people struggling to install and play it on the first weekend… Worked out of the box for me.

Honestly, we’re so far that it’s easier to look for unsupported games. Those include those with draconian anti cheat (see https://areweanticheatyet.com/) and those that can only be installed with the Windows store like Minecraft Bedrock edition (but for that the Android version works) and Gamepass games.

You can launch Minecraft Bedrock with the mcpelauncher of the Steam Deck or you can use Waydroid.

ProtonDB if you buy your games on Steam when possible. A game being gold on ProtonDB implies nothing it you buy your games from GOG or Epic. I’ve spent hours on trying to make Cyberpunk run on Linux (Lutris, Bottles, Heroic, staging versions of WINE and proton that I configured manually), but it seems I need to buy the game on Steam if I ever want to play it again.

Have it on GOG and play via heroic. I get 80+ FPS at high settings @1440p (balanced FSR), AMD R7 5800x, RX 7600XT. This is on Arch.

I had to use winetricks to install some DLLs to the prefix in order for the game to work properly with mods, but beyond that I’ve had no issues.

For me it just crashes the moment the CD Projekt logo fades out. No amount of command line arguments seem to bypass the crash. Other people online mention the same problem since a certain update, but GOG doesn’t seem to respond to those threads.

Have you tried adding it as a non-steam game and telling it to use Proton that way?

there are a few options to make gog/epic games works with heroic, if it doesn’t work out of the box :

      • using proton from steam/GE
      • using steam runtime
      • using protondb to know what to tweak the launch options or windows component to download via wine tricks
      • copy the game in steam.

I’ve seen that a protondb user posted about cyberpunk 2077 working on heroic launcher. I hope you’ll manage to have it too.

Exactly the same issue with me, I bought it on Good Old Games when I used to run windows as I love the premise of GOG, a similar ethos to Linux of actually owning software - but steam proton is just infinitely more practical.
