Microsoft fires Joe Lopez for disrupting Genocide-profiteer Satya Nadella during Microsoft Build Keynote speech and bans words like “Palestine”, “Gaza” and “Genocide” in all company emails!!! Yet another chapter in a long tale of Microsoft’s intimidation, retaliation, repression, and censorship culture. Source.

how long until you’re not allowed to use certain words on your own computer any more? i’m here to assist anyone looking to install Linux - and you don’t even need to commit! you can try it out with nothing but a thumb drive.

edit - the biggest hangup for a long time was gaming. but now that steam is selling its own device, their support for linux has skyrocketed and now you can play just about anything you want on steam. so now what do you have to lose? m365? lol

I’m thinking about switching over but I’ve been worried because I have an nvidia gpu in my gaming rig. I see some people say that’s no problem while others claim keeping the drivers up to date is a pain.

you can install it as “dual boot”, which lets you choose either Windows or Linux at boot. this is the best way to test it out, since all it takes up is a bit of storage while you try it. if you decide you don’t like it, you can remove it and pretend like it never happened.

i don’t know enough about graphics cards to tell you anything about that side of stuff, but i have heard complaints about nvidia + linux before. i don’t know if that’s still a thing, but i can only assume it’ll be something that will improve as one country keeps firing some of its best people

There are two reasons people complain about Nvidia drivers on Linux. The first is because they are proprietary, which doesn’t matter for anyone except turbo nerds.

But Nvidia drivers used to be pretty bad on Linux. But I genuinely don’t think I’ve had a driver crash since I installed my 2070 back in like 2019. I’ve upgraded to a 3080ti and I still haven’t had any issues. I have a 4k/120hz HDR monitor and don’t have any issues with that either.

people are already self-censoring for fear that their message won’t be heard. that’s horrible. i’m on lemmy - like many others - because i chose to speak my mind on reddit and received the inevitable “permanent suspension”.

kill the first person who uses the term “pdf file” on this platform. oh shit, i just did it so that would be me. um, kill the SECOND person who uses the term “pdf file” on this platform. oh shit

While they want some content removed outright but the bigger goal of censorship is the shilling effect on the discourse broadly.

Hence why privacy is a must

Probably not long. Microsoft Recall constantly takes screenshots while you use your own personal computer! They can now use AI to OCR if you write text in Microsoft Paint! They can send that shit to anyone including the government and their branch in Israel! Amazing!
