During the great migration, the trending communities was showing the latest being created. Nowadays, it seems to be a mix of new communities, and empty old communities.
I am not really sure how it’s really working ? Does someone know ?

Based on the source code, I think trending communities are sorted based on either total follower counts or the amount of active users in the past month.
I’m not 100% where where the communities query gets turned into the list of trending communities, though, so this may not be completely accurate.
