I’m with you. Not that I’m not up for placing blame where it is due. But also I want to see not accurate information from the left because it’s getting absolutely unhinged. Too many times I’ve brought up some point like this that I’ve seen only to have more information revealed to me that turns out it was practically bullshit. People are just reacting to headlines more and more and it’s causing this information degradation on the left
Exactly, I ain’t even saying this was not at least part of the issue but the comments are acting as if this is a hard fact that job is direct cause of suicide and then proceed to politics. This dont feel right.
In this case the article is all about multiple people who faced suicidal ideation. Who they themselves attribute to all this doge bs. It isn’t just job loss, or the fear and stress of it, but the job itself as well.
The article covers multiple industries and sources. It is a fantastic article so I urge you to read it
People who work in research often have their whole life built around their specific field of research, to the point where their transferable skills and knowledge are minimized or excluded. Financially, they’re usually dependent on the institution they work for to a far greater degree than most professions are, which is part of why tenure exists. They also—but certainly not always—are neurodivergent. Their area of research is necessarily something they’re passionate about.
I can totally see this happening. There’s a lot going on in the world right now. Many people are experiencing extreme anxiety about world events they don’t have power over.
Being personally bullied by the government specifically about the work that is tremendously personally important would be devastating.
Damn, that first paragraph hits way to close to home for me. Now you’ve got me feeling extra anxious. You are very correct though, I’m sure there are many more that feel this way too.
Guess your job doesn’t involve saving the lives of hundreds of pregnant women and their babies. I guess if everything you’ve done over the past 10 years was ripped out and thrown away it would destroy nothing of value and you wouldn’t care. And if we hired a bunch of goons to attack you every time you were online and threaten you in person it would have no affect on your mental health. But she did, it was, and it did for her.
You know what? I was so out of brain this morning I stared at that for a whole minute wondering if it was right. I write for work every goddamn day and I was like “WTF… how did I forget this. I use these words EVERY DAY.” I knew until I thought about it.
I almost looked it up but then was like… no, 50/50 shot and everyone will know what I mean. No one will point it out.
Well that escalated.
I think pinning suicide on the job is a bit far fetched though
Read the damn article

Did you miss the harassment part?
Media often correlates things that have nothing to do with each other. Let’s get better with this stuff
Lügenpresse, right? Right?

Academia grinds you down first but “employment” is what kills.
Happens on the time. Especially in professions where your life is basically work.
Guess your job doesn’t involve saving the lives of hundreds of pregnant women and their babies. I guess if everything you’ve done over the past 10 years was ripped out and thrown away it would destroy nothing of value and you wouldn’t care. It’s almost like outside factors may effect someone’s health and wellbeing.
This is one case where misspelling ‘affect’ works.

lol it’s all good friend
A teachable moment for some readers who have trouble discerning the difference between the words.
Hmm, is it me whos out of touch? No, it’s everybody else whos wrong.
It’s usually a mix of things but I am sure seeing your lifes work be destroyed and constantly being harassed didnt help.
