Is there a userscript or something? The view image Firefox extension doesn’t seem to do shit.

I second this. Either ddg has come a long way with sesrch results or Google enshittified theirs to oblivion. Maybe it’s both. I only use Google search for really obscure stuff that ddg has a hard time fetching. And more often than not Google fails as well.

Does it work fine on Chrome? You could set the user agent to a Chrome one so you get the proper experience. I think there’s even a Firefox addon for this.

Google did this because of a settlement with getty

      https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2018/02/internet-rages-after-google-removes-view-image-button-bowing-to-getty/

Almost two years ago, Getty Images filed antitrust charges against Google in the EU, taking issue with the company’s image scraping techniques to display image search results. Earlier this week, Google and Getty Images announced a partnership and Getty withdrew its charges against Google. Changes like the removal of direct image links were apparently part of the agreement.

I think this is about another issue. The article says they removed the view image button, which is not the issue here. On Firefox mobile, or any browser with a user agent other than chrome, you cannot zoom on an image, or open the context menu where you can share it, save it, open it in a new tab …
They basically override the default image behavior to make it awful to use if your user agent is not chrome.

The article mentions the extension “make google search great again” which is slightly different from “google search fixer” that only changes your user agent.

Edit : my bad I misread the post, you are right op want the view image button which was removed because of Getty image. So for that there is the extension “make google search great again”
