Every single time I use Spotify, after the first advert it says to enjoy the next 30 minutes ad free. Then after a 2 minute long song, I get 5 minutes of adverts 😑. Every single time
Edit: using mutify now, thank you everyone!
It infuriates me too, it’s an outrageous lie. Bizarrely sometimes it plays for ages with no ads IDKY
- IOS; Sideloading EeveeSpotify.
- Windows; Specitify.
- Android; ReVanced.
There’s no reason to waste your time on ads.
Last time I checked, uBlock blocked ads on Spotify.

Yeah, your right. uBlock Origin block advertisement on the browser. However, Spicetify blocks advertisement within the desktop app and allows for multiple add-ons/ extension plus customizing your entire app.
God why does this not have more upvotes and why isn’t it the first comment. I literally was screaming how someone could be on here and not possibly know of the various ways to get around shitty ads.
YT music with ReVanced is a fucking dream, I love it. Spotify is probably also great. Didn’t even know about the iOS and Windows apps, but I hated iPhone and finally ditched Windows for Fedora so I don’t keep track of those as much.
But seriously they have so many options, especially on Android. Like there’s a FOSS app or patched option for literally everything on there.
Laughs in Navidrome
I can’t get good automatic playlists on navidrome. Nor any good way to automatically mix my collection satisfactory…
Not entirely automatic, but I found that Navidrome (at least when you use a third party client like Feishen or Symfonium) has smart playlists. I use that to write some simple queries like:
By genre:
- Ambient
- Downtempo
By listening habits:
- All Favorites
- Rediscover Old Favorites
- Last 100 Songs Played
- Never Listened To
- Top 100 Songs
and so on.
Obviously, the genre smart playlists assume your music has Genres tags. I use Picard (with the Last.fm genre plugin) for that.
tell me about Picard? I heard of that… Bit never tried it. My collection come from lidarr
It’s a GUI tool that gives you the ability to tag songs in bulk. It uses the MusicBrainz database to provide relevant metadata, and also provides user plugins (like the Last.fm plugin I mentioned)
I get my songs in batches (through Bandcamp and youtube-dlp) every couple of months, so GUI is fine for me.
However, I’m seeing a CLI alternative called https://beets.io/ ? Apparently it is a CLI tool that also queries the MusicBrainz database (or Beatport, or Discogs), and apparently integrates well with Lidarr. I never tried it, however.
For downloading there’s lucida.to
why don’t you have an adblocker? I haven’t seen / heard an ad on one of my devices in 15 years.
Wait that’s a thing in Mobile devices?
Look into NextDNS. It can block ads systemwide on your device.
If you’re on iPhone, SOL or use Spotify web with brave browser (in-built ad blocker).
If you’re on Android plenty of APKs that’ll disable ads and make you ‘premium’
There’s no reason to trust random APKs for stuff like this anymore when Revanced exists to let you build the APK yourself right on your phone with only the patches you want. Highly recommend!
I prefer my phone with malware, so I know I’m not alone
I haven’t considered this point before. Currently clicking on every sketchy ad I see.
I second the other user recommending revanced and also would like to throw in spotx-bash fix for the desktop spotify app ad removal.
https://github.com/SpotX-Official/SpotX-Bash
Windows version
Firefox + ublock origin + sponsor block (for youtube).
i don’t use apple products but it works on everything else
Use spot tube
Use spotube or simpmusic. Its not like spotify actually pays their artists jackshit. Just make sure to send small artists a few bucks if you really like their stuff
So stop ducking using the service. How else is it ever going to change?
Also, stop fucking using it
Stop using services that don’t care about their users for
fuck
's sake
I used to get so annoyed at the auto correct to ducking but after a niece and nephew were introduced as variables I’ve found ducking the most effective sentence enhancer that doesn’t provoke a parent teacher conference for my brother lol
FYI: You can have unlimited advertisement free music if you actually pay for a subscription*. Or pirate.
*not necessarily true for podcasts, in which the podcaster could have ads baked into the recording.
This episode is brought to you by Me Undies

Actually not.
I like listening to the WAN show podcast from LTT. Amd as most here prpbably know they are very keen on monetizing a lot on their content.
As it turns out Spotify has different settings between podcasts and music. And they offer the creators to enable ads (even for premium subs) inbetween podcast episodes.
So if you queue the LTT-podcast after a regular song, you can get advertisements before and after an episode.
You can scrub through or skip the ad but it requires manual interaction to do so. And hot keys like on (BT-)headsets don’t work.I confirmed their existence with the Spotify support
Tbh I kinda don’t mind the podcaster ads when they put their own spin on it and are cute about it
Podcast ads are easy to skip. Still, i pay subscription to my favourite podcast network to support them, and it’s more convenient not having to skip.
spicetify
I will say nothing else
Ohh, also revanced spotify
legit I pay for Spotify and I love spicetify, been considering canceling it because spicetify and revanced spotify exist
do it, this megacorp doesn’t deserve your hard earned money
I would but there’s a site I use called RVRB that only works with Spotify Premium AFAIK, and I enjoy the site too much to give it up. Great way to discover new music.
Or SpotX for Windows, you just paste and run a powershell command line.
This is one service where the free version really isn’t worth it.
Only 5 minutes of uninterrupted adverts? They said 30 minutes. Liars.
It’s worse than that! It’s 2 minutes of music followed by 5 minutes of adverts
So they’re shorting you 25 minutes on the promised 30 minutes of uninterrupted adverts. Wankers!
The only reason I would listen to 5 minutes of adverts is if I had no way of stopping them.
I tried YouTube today for the first time in years. Its unwatchable. The frog must have been slowly boiling for years to have so many people accept what Youtube is now. Just wow.
I managed to watch about 10 minutes but had about 5 ads during that time, taking up several minutes of my time. It broke my focus and I forgot what the video was about.
Back to Newpipe.
I’ve actually subscribed to premium. YouTube + YT Music.
Yeah I have a few colleagues that did that too. But I dont want to support big tech by being paying user.
Ublock origin + sponsor block makes YouTube entirely watchable and you don’t have to fund this horrible company
My sympathy
Why are you not using adblock and/or revanced?
I was using the official YouTube app since I wanted to use chromecast to get a video up on my tv.
I havent used revanced, seems interesting also. But Newpipe just does what I need so im happy.
Already have network wide adblocking but doesnt stop YouTube ads in their official app.
Network wide as in DNS based only goes so far. For your TV there’s Smarttube
Its an app? No i still have a dumb tv. 50 inch plasma that has lasted 10 years now i think. And I like that its not smart, so it doesnt talk to random stuff on the internet.
I guess I will replace it soon but when I do, that tv gets no internet access. :)
I can only watch it with revanced and sponsorblock, otherwise I’d just watch some of my old downloaded stuff.
That’s something I couldn’t listen to, so it’s not Mildly infuriating, it’s the upper tier…:-)
