Work is super stressful right now and I could use some comfort food ideas. Especially since mine tend to involve carbs but I think carbs are making me bloat in a way they didn’t when I was 20. (Aside: getting older sucks.) Never been a fan of ice cream either.
Mine are typically mashed potatoes, or potatoes generally, and plain bean and rice burritos, cheese optional. My husband thinks I’m crazy because it’s all so plain but when I’m sick or stressed and my stomach is upset, that’s what I want.
Plain comfort food would usually be something like home made chicken fried rice. That bland, carb, hug with a bit of umami to lift it.
That or any nostalgic food. Stuff my mum used to cook when we were kids (but not some of the stuff we had because it was the 70s!). Like fried egg and chips. We were pretty poor at that stage but two eggs and one large potato per kid was affordable. Cheap and tasty. But my mum was a pretty great cook so she also used to do curries and goulash and paprikash and fish pie and steak and kidney pudding… any these, if cooked just so, are comforting to me.
