*Not Bitcoin.

But I remember reading about something that would use some sort of social credit score that would determine how you or if you could do certain things. Particularly that there is some movement to replace us currency. with some kind of newer digital service.

Is that a thing that is happening or being worked on?

No, not as you’ve described it.

However there are many decentralized blockchain/distributed ledger technologies that are up and running that can handle the transaction volume that would be required if they were mass adopted and used as day to day currency, replacing government controlled currencies. Bitcoin can’t handle that kind of transaction volume, but Nano, BCH, XRP, HBAR, etc to name a few would all be capable of being used as currency to replace the US dollar.

Now please downvote me as is tradition.

I just googled project redar cbdc and almost nothing came up. You seem to have some specific concerns about a certain project, I can’t speak to that. I was responding to the more general part of your question about whether an alternative to US dollars is being developed and whether there is some dystopian social credit system involved.

You’re probably talking about the Chinese social credit score, not a replacement for currency but is up and working.

No I heard about something that was possibly going to get implemented into u.s currency. Possibly adding a newer more refined way of using the currency if not replacing it. I didn’t know much about it. and it’s been like 4-3 years since I last looked into it. edit: it was something like the Cbdc project Redar I think it was called.

Unrelated, but I can’t say I have seen anyone write 4-3 years rather than 3-4 years. It feels backwards, like saying out and over, or z to a.

Traditionally currency may soon be replaced by: necessary networks of mutual aid between your neighbours and; having each other’s backs when the shooting starts.

    *Not Bitcoin.

Why not? Otherwise, there are CBDCs purportedly under way, but I haven’t read about them in probably half a year or longer, come to think of it…

Cbdc is what I was particularly thinking of. I said not Bitcoin so that hopefully someone in the know would probably tell me what that was called, and if it was still in the works and how it is now in 2025
