Tesla faces a proposed class action claiming it speeds up odometers on its electric vehicles so they fall out of warranty faster, saving Elon Musk’s company from having to pay for repairs.
The plaintiff Nyree Hinton alleged that Tesla odometer readings reflect energy consumption, driver behavior and “predictive algorithms” rather than actual mileage driven.
He said the odometer on the 2020 Model Y he bought in December 2022 with 36,772 miles on the clock ran at least 15% fast, based on his other vehicles and driving history, and for a while said he drove 72 miles a day when at most he drove 20.
If this is true it should be easy enough to prove. But I feel like we would have heard about it by now. 72/20 miles is a big difference and people use GPS all the time, which tells you exactly how far your route is.
Remember when VW fudged their environmental numbers a bit and it was a giant shit show that cost the company billions? I’m sure Tesla will go through the same thing right? right?
They’re an American company. So obviously not silly. Unless they get acquired by a foreign company, then it’s payday (see Monsanto).
Or GM with their broken ignition locks that killed countless people and ruined people’s lifes
The people who care about such things as honesty or quality have already abandoned Tesla. The people who still wants to buy a Tesla, either still think it’s a status symbol like an Iphone in 2009, or they absolutely love being abused by a rich cunt.
It’s not going to matter for them at all.
3rd option: they don’t give a fuck. The most common answer I have around me about why they still have a Tesla is operating cost. They’re going to get a new car every 3-5 years regardless.
Federal regulators about to come down on him so hard!
Well, not THAT one, she was fired. And not THAT one, he took the severance. And not THAT one, their child was deported.
I think the main reason why odometers run fast is so that Tesla owners think their swastikars have more range than they actually do.
Eylon Musq da honest businessman, dey said
and they still wonder how do these people got rich
In fairness, Volkswagen has done far worse than Tesla.
Dishonesty, law-dodging and other psychopathic behaviors is a feature of corporations and their owners. It’s part and parcel of how enterprises must conduct themselves to thrive in ultra-capitalist societies. This is not limited to the most visible corporate psychopath in the United States or his companies.
Ok, so its !fuckcars@lemmy.world then?
Sure. Is there also a matching one for capitalism, since it’s far beyond just cars.
