I experienced this first hand in the first grade. The teacher tied my left hand to the desk. Even though it didn’t happen in the second grade I was regularly humiliated for writing with my left hand. As a result of not being allowed to learn my natural way. How to practice writing in those early years my handwriting has always been terrible. People are shit and the most guilty are those that see how wrong these things are and say nothing. Those who see but don’t stand up for decency. Those are the ones who are most to blame. If they would grow a spine and stand up with the victims then the victimizers would find themselves all alone with their indecency.

I mean, I am left handed and I listen to demonic Witch House music often and I’m a godless heathen so maybe they were on to something there.

I can highly recommend my boy Skaen. He deserves so much more attention and appreciation for his music.

I went to a Catholic pre-school in the early 80s and was slapped with a ruler when I tried writing with my left hand. Now my penmanship looks like I have Parkinsons.

But this is trivially true, and not an argument for or against any policy. If you stopped trying to prevent people from murdering each other, the murder rate would also rise rapidly and then plateau. In general, if you stop punishing people for doing something, it will be done more often but not necessarily 100% of the time no matter what it is.

I presume that the author’s intention is to imply that being transgender is like being left handed in that it is an innate quality which cannot be changed even if it is suppressed, but there’s nothing in what he wrote here which is an argument for that implication.

People have been saying transgender people are new and that “they” are converting kids trans, which justifies the increase

There are obviously other “arguments” against trans people, but they arent addressed in this post

I mean, for normal people, we get the implication of his comment and what he means with it.

We don’t need it spelled out for us as to not confuse it with legalization of murder.

I don’t understand how your mind could even go there.

being transgender is like being left handed in that it is an innate quality which cannot be changed even if it is suppressed, but there’s nothing in what he wrote here which is an argument for that implication.

There is nothing implied here. The parallels between the two is the explicit argument of the quote.

The apparent growth in the transgender population is similar to the apparent growth in the left-handed population. Transgender, gay, and left-handed people were all around before it was socially acceptable.

It was known and in the public consciousness long before it was tolerated, and people would persist in being transgender, gay, or left-handed despite it literally being a crime.

They were punished and oppressed, yet continued to exist. When it finally became more acceptable, each population appeared to explode by a sudden increase in people self-identifying and self-reporting.

But in each case it was always there. It’s nothing new. A patient seeking medical transition was on TV in 1975. People just didn’t notice because they are a relatively small minority, and because they were forced to hide from others - or worse - from themselves.

How is being trans comparable to murder?

How is it helpful or healthy to compare trans people existing to murder?

Why do you now feel guilty for typing this bigoted shit when you know deep down it’s how you feel?

      This is called self reflection.

You need to start asking yourself these kinds of questions before you give in to that part of your brain that gives you a dopamine reward for saying edgy things with plausible deniability.

Also the church tried its best to alienate deaf children and destroyed any kind of sign language they came across. Because “they can’t hear gods words”.

Thw legacy remains. I’m hard of hearing and my parents were told not to teach me sign as a kid because I would only sign and lose my English. Like first of all, spoken English is so common it wasnt going to happen. Secondly, seriously that’s a terrible reason to deny a language.

Then as my country has been crumbling my entire adult life I’ve been more focused on foreign spoken languages than sign because I’m pretty sure Germany won’t take “sure i can’t speak or read German, but i can sign the fuck out of it”

I haven’t heard of this but also wouldn’t be surprised if a church did this. Is there any source on this one?

I read it in a book series about learning the German sign language. This one if it’s any help. But I can’t find any sources online accept Fuck that I found it:

The church barred deaf people from Holy Communion because they could not confess aloud. Deaf people were also prohibited from inheriting their family’s wealth […]

Oralism provided members of the privileged classes with deaf children a way to channel their children’s education and an opportunity to keep them away from the deaf community. Speaking has been associated with the higher classes and higher intellect, and the perception of signing has been the opposite.

        US Bonus:

Bell also believed that sign language was an instrument of imprisonment and that its use prevented the “gesturer” from being a “true American”.

        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oralism

        The entire article is infuriating.

My boy is 4 and always wants to be a princess, or any female character from TV shows. Its adorable and I don’t give a fuck. If he wants to be a she when he grows up, my only concern is hardships from intolerance.

I was the same. Girls - especially princesses - got all the attention and were allowed to wear pretty dresses. Kinda says something about the role we as a society force onto boys maybe.

When he was little my boy loved dresses and dressing up with his sisters. He begged us to buy him a spider girl costume and we did. He loved it. He’s ten now and working out how to talk to girls cause he likes them. Turns out I, his father, wear the dress now.

I played with Polly Pockets and shit as a young boy, and I’m pretty solidly a cishet dude.

It’s almost like your environment doesn’t determine your sexual orientation or gender or something.

The important thing is that they grow into an emotionally intelligent adult, because it will allow them to better understand and protect themselves, as well as others around them.

Society is changing to a better direction when you raise gentle children like you are, even if sometimes it doesn’t feel that way.

Why are all the kids being born in Silicon Valley getting diagnosed with ASD?? Maybe because at least one of their software engineer parents could/should have been.

This was apparently one of the starting points in the US according to the book Neurotribes.

Autism was always around. Someone once said that everyone had that uncle that was really REALLY into collecting trains and displaying them.

Since I heard that back in the day… I just accepted that there’s nothing new under the sun and all these trigger points for folks today have just always been around. We just have a 24 hour news cycle now.

Kinda. Another large component is that we just understand the disorder better now and are able to diagnose it (more) properly. Same with ADHD (although to a lesser extent)
