Is it only for photography nerds at the moment or everyone ?

It is for everyone. I’m not a photography nerd and have an account that I post sporadically.

If you want to browse any instance, you can go to that instance home page and click “explore”. Example: https://pixelfed.social/web/explore

Hope you accomplish your mission to bring your friends to FediVerse. It is a little sad that the communication with Lemmy is not good at the moment.

Check out Fred on YouTube, I think you’ll learn pretty quickly you don’t want to go down that verse

It’s like the early stages of IG. What are you wanting to use it for? There’s definitely no algorithmic reels feed filling you with everything you crave.

Say no more fam. I’m there. I miss those days so much, when it was more genuine content and actual photos of things and not a sea of selfies.

Most people are using the big guys due to being addicted to the constant feed of everything they like. There’s nothing like that. You’d have to convince them they have a problem and ween them off lol

Maybe I haven’t spent enough time searching out accounts to follow, but I’ve found Pixelfed to be a bit lacking compared to Lemmy.

Lemmy successfully replaced Reddit for me. But Pixelfed is just too barren for me to be able to ditch Instagram.

Also is there any way i can browse it for some time without making an acc ?

Oh gods this is the worst fucking thing about Instagram. As someone who never had an account there (in my case, less because of the privacy concerns and more just because I value photography more as an art form than the types of things Instagram encouraged, especially in its early days with the square-only limitation and heavy emphasis on filters), whenever I get sent a link to it, it’s just the worst. It manages to somehow be even worse than TikTok is for un-signed-in users.

Ikr? It’s so fucking stupid–both Twitter and IG are worse than TikTok in case of this.

Let’s say you open a random Instagram link. Or a tweet link. You never know whether you will be able to see the link or not, it’s just a random chance in my.experience. If not–I swear this is the stupidest part of this–theyll straight up just show you an ambiguous error message, like “An error happened”. If you really want to push new users to create an account, AT THE VERY LEAST SHOW A ACCOUNT SIGN UP PAGE DAMN IT!!!. God damn, software are getting worse every day, and this comes from a programmer. Software tooling are better than ever, but these companies will continue enshittify their product! Damn.
