Where I was it went from 3.5" floppies to USB drives. (There were CDs, but not as easy for things like schoolwork.)

They may fare better than conventional 1.44mb, but I’ve had a hell of a time getting anything before then mid 2000s to read recently. Magnetic media and writable CDs are pretty damn perishable.
