Why not use Android when things like lineage OS and graphene exist? The way I see it from least private to most private would be standard Android then Apple then Android running like lineage OS or graphene with no Google apps.
I might need to be more specific here: Not using stock android ever.
But buying a (used) android phone just to be able to root it vs buying some half finished linux phone doesnt feel too great either. Thats why I havent made the jump. The switching cost (time, money, energy) is just too high.
I was thinking about pinephone but the reports so far are meh, librem 5 seems incredibly expensive, fairphone - somewhat more decent but also pretty expensive atm.
I feel like there needs to be more of a community for this to discuss and share experiences so people can feel confident switching, myself included.
Fair enough. LineageOS or GrapheneOS with no GApps is the only way I have used Android for the past ~5 years and it works really well. I will not buy a device at all until I can put either Lineage or Graphene on it and I only boot into stock android long enough to enable USB debugging and OEM unlocking which are needed for flashing. After that I flash the device and then set it up fully.
