Q1: Since the Judicial branch is supposed to keep an eye on the other two branches, and all three are controlled by the GOP, what is there to do? In the end any legitimate complaint that makes it to the SCOTUS will be tossed out like yesterdays McDonalds wrappers out of Clarence Thomas’ window.

Q2: I see Bernie Sanders on X talking about everything that is happening with no solutions and no place to start and no one to look up to. WTF is happening? Even GOPs with little kids are having buyer’s remorse as they are quickly losing all their lifelines and food for their children. Even if the dems have no solutions someone could try to stand up for us and offer us advice on how to navigate through this.

Same thing we told you in 2024, 2022, 2020, 2018, 2016… Vote blue top to bottom. Throw the Republican scum out of office.

Next up? 2026 - Every single House seat and 35 Senate seats (22 Republican, 13 Democratic) are up for election.

Change starts there. The Senate in particular confirms or denies judicial nominees. That one is key. Enough Republican seats are up for a vote to turn the Senate on it’s ear.

And don’t forget to primary the Hell out of any Democrat that has proven feckless and cowardly in this hour. Time for Fetterman to go, and many others. Anyone that voted against AOC for the committee seat needs to be primaried. Anyone that voted for a single one of Trump’s cabinet nominees needs to be primaried. Purge the party. It is time for a purge.

I have done that year after year. The chucklefuck Ds in office now who can’t be bothered to look up from their insider trading to do literally anything useful are never getting another vote from me. Anyone who lands on the next ballot with a D next to their name is far from guaranteed to get my vote. If the Ds refuse to do anything at all about this brewing constitutional crisis and ending of the rule of law. Voting more of the same in isn’t any kind of change, particularly if they just let those in charge shit on everything.

      Vote blue top to bottom.

Did the last four years fix anything?

It’s not enough to have a D by their name, they need to actually be capable and willing to fight fascism.

The absence of evil just isn’t good enough anymore.

If the only two choice involve one being “status quo” then “status quo” is going to keep losing. You can shout that it should win till your face turns blue, but that’s obviously not working.

Why the fuck is there so much opposition to just running a good candidate Dem voters agree with?

Because people can’t agree on a good Dem candidate, and you already have someone in this thread trying to primary half the incumbents and expect to hold seats.

    what is there to do?

I’d say a national strike would be in order. All people in the country should refuse to work for like a week and spend that time protesting on the streets. And demand democracy and food for their children.

    I just want to rant.

The fact that “the judicial branch is controlled by [insert party]” is a valid and true statement to make, especially right now with the GOP, is such a bastardization of the separation of powers.

Republican judges have shut down Trump before and will hopefully continue to do so at least some of the time.

Republicans have a slim Senate majority, and if any Rs decide to become their party’s Manchin or Sinema, things can still be blocked. There’s also bound to be infighting among Rs after conflicting things.

The ACLU and other groups are filing lawsuits. If they win or not will be seen, but they will keep trying.

One thing I feel I don’t see talked about enough on here though, is what we can do as individuals. Are you getting involved anywhere? If not, why?

Every community has groups looking out for the poor/homeless, discriminated groups, the environment, immigrants, labor unions, etc. If you don’t trust your leaders to solve things, that leaves us all to step up to fill those holes.

I’ve already applied for one volunteer service, and am looking into others depending how the first one goes. We can’t just sit and wait to see what happens. We need to get involved and take personal responsibility.

You’re not gonna like my answer, our chance to do something was back in November. Our chance to keep this from happening was in November. As a nation we chose the opposite path. We chose the opposite path, knowing full well what Trump was going to do. He didn’t hide it. He didn’t disguise it. He didn’t pretend to be anything other than who he was. And yet the nation still voted for him .

As a nation, we knew if we voted for Republicans and for Trump, this would be the result.

He directly said he wanted to remove birthright citizenship.

Let’s put that in slightly different terms.

    We voted so that:

A president of the United States could remove the benefits of a constitutional amendment, Or could remove a constitutional amendment altogether via an executive order. We voted so that a president could do that without congressional oversight, unilaterally, via an executive order.

How anybody who believes in democracy would say that that is a good idea and could not see the red flag is completely beyond me.

    There is literally no excuse.

We voted so that not only could Trump do this, but any president could do this. Think about it , if you give President Trump the ability to remove the benefits a constitutional amendment via an executive order, you give every single president from now on that same ability.

I don’t care which side of the aisle you’re on that doesn’t end well.

One side could say well I don’t like the second amendment and remove the benefits of the second amendment. One side might say I don’t like protesting and seriously limit your ability. Or your ability to speak out against the government.

Hell, they could even limit your ability to vote that’s in the constitution and part of that is in the constitutional amendment so how is this a good idea?

Yet as a nation, this is how we voted.

Once you give a politician ability to do something, they will not give up that power without a fight and they will keep using that power.

This does not end well , it will not end well , and we are only seeing the beginning.

Republicans control the house, the Senate, the presidency and a fair amount of the federal court systems. We also have a fair amount of red states.

There is zero ability to undo this.

    Absolutely zero.

Even if we somehow voted out Republicans come next election do you think the Democrats are gonna give up this ability? I’m sorry to tell you this no they won’t. They’ll use it. By the way, I don’t believe Democrats will win the next election. I believe Republicans will take the midterms. I believe they will take the presidency come next presidential election. And new president will have two terms. Which means we will have 12 years as a Republican lead country.

By that point people will be so used to the new system. People adapt quickly, and I doubt you will even get the pushback needed.

You’re asking, how do we fight back?

I’m sorry to tell you this we are well and truly fucked.

Maybe in 60 years, we might see a turnaround. I doubt it though.

I miss the days when senators, reps, and judges viewed thier offices as positions to be respected and would unite across party lines against one of the other branches or houses if they did not show respect and work with them as an entity. The republicans just went all bend over for the party leader no matter what.
