Looking for the best FOSS android app for Lemmy.
As some others, I use Jerboa. Tried a few others, but happy with it.
I use Eternity because I heavily used Infinity, the Reddit app that it’s forked from
Eternity ftw
I just use jerboa
Eternity is great! Best UI in my opinion.
There are a hundred little things that grind my gears with eternity though. Trying to work through them without switching for now.
Best App is Sync, not sure its FOSS.
Closed source app filled with ads, promotes subscription mindset, not a good thing.
It’s not
It’s def still the best app though. For me personally the only reason why I’m on lemmy.
I agree. I used it for 10 years on reddit (I paid $0.99) and bought the lifetime ad removal for the Lemmy version when it came out. It’s not what OP is looking for though.
If Sync didn’t exist I would use Thunder. It works well, has a nice interface, and is FOSS.
I just dropped Sync. I’ve used it for reddit since the app came out. Even paid for the premium version years ago. My purchase didn’t carry over to the lemmy version, and I noticed the app collects data for marketing now. Switched to Voyager, it’s not as fluid as Sync but I’ll get used to it.
Summit is what I use.
Thunder is my favorite with Voyager a close second.
I use Summit for now. I went through quite a few others but this one is a keeper.
Jerboah is the oldest but best.
I like Thunder and Eternity
I dont know is Connect FOSS, but its amazing. I used to be on liftoff, but its not maintained anymore
Voyager has the nice feature to mark posts as read if you scroll past them. Has no way to create posts though.
Sure it does. Click the dots in the upper right corner inside a community.
Jerboa with Dracula theme of course.
Boost

Summit. Solid app.
Summit isn’t FOSS.
Well that sucks. I still prefer it over the other ones I tried. Plus the dev uses Lemmy so that’s always a plus.
Which Lemmy client dev doesn’t have a lemmy account?
I dunno. I just saw the Summit dev talk about Summit so I tried it and really like it.
I also tried and liked it, though I switched back to Jerboa because I would always support the development of an open source app over a closed source app. The summit dev also said that he won’t open source it so I never will use it again.
I wish I had your determination! For me proprietary software is like committing a sin, I know I shouldn’t do it but sometimes it’s stronger than me.
