I need advice on investments. I want someone to do my taxes, or at least advise me.
I’ve always done my own taxes and managed my investments. I’m looking for someone to help me with investment strategy. I know to look for a fiduciary as they are required to act in my interest. I also want to talk to someone who can help me leverage and optimize investment losses that I might experience to offset my income.
Obviously I’m not looking for an actual name or business. I’m just not sure what the business name or job title is for someone who does all of this so I can locate someone locally. Basically what is a CPA combined with an investment advisor called? Or how do I get my investment advisor and tax preparer to collaborate on strategy?
They’re two different areas of specialty. You want one of each.
If you belong to a credit union, tell them you’re looking for a financial advisor. They might have good ones that won’t cost you anything.
For taxes, you may want a tax preparer and not a CPA. A financial advisor can talk to you about the differences and may be able to help you find one based on your needs.
Seconding this. Each role is so complex.
Also this.
An investment advisor should help with your investment portfolio and strategies
A cpa will know the tax code and how to wrangle those losses to offset gains
And yes it may require having them together on a phone call to sort things out
I am not sure why you would come to this, of all places, for advice for someone of your wealth stature. You ok?
I’m not rich by any means. I’ve just been working hard the last few years to get to a better position, but like any other American, I’m a few bad events away from living in a cardboard box under a bridge. I asked here because I don’t use the other site anymore and I’ve found people around here have a breadth of knowledge. I picked no stupid questions because this is totally a noob question.
They’re just called tax preparers, like H & R block, but there’s also FreeTaxUSA which is not really totally free, but it’s what I usually use, and it keeps your financial records online so next year most of your info is already filled out for you. Also, any financial advisor can help you with more complex tax advice.
I hope that’s helpful.
It’s literally nostupidquestions.
I am enitrely chastened for not realizing that. Thanks!
