Totally agree. We need to be less like them. We don’t need gimmicks. Let’s focus on the content, and a decent community. Kind of like Reddit before all the avatars, chat features, gold, followers, etc… After all, those features were only added to Reddit to make it sell.
I think followers and chat are a good idea because I could follow my friends and share memes directly to them through Lemmy rather than have to download and share it externally. But besides that yeah

Most aspects of Reddit are fine; it was the monetization and moderation that made it bad. We shouldn’t have to miss out on the cool stuff we loved from Reddit just because Reddit did it.
Lemmy is already less like it’s counterpart! Can’t we have some neat stuff carry over besides up/downvoting and threaded discussions?
