Im looking for an app for android that allows streaming audio books, downloads ect.
Any favorites? From fdroid or mobilism?
Voice has never made me want a different player, fwiw.
Can you specify the name of the app or where to find it?
Voice, on F-Droid.
https://f-droid.org/packages/de.ph1b.audiobook/
Listen Audiobook Player
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.acmeandroid.listen
Being able to download from my Plex library made this an easy pick for me.
Glad you like it. Enjoy.
I use playbook. It’s fine. Simple, good controls. Works with super-long files and smaller subset files.
I’m pretty sure I got it on fdroid.
Are you sure you get it on F-droid? I can’t find it.
Look, you’ve already got the best audiobook player. The problem you’re having now is sourcing, the solution is to get a MyAnonymouse account. They do open registrations fairly often and it’s literally the easiest private tracker to keep up with. You may not want to torrent, but I don’t think you’re gonna find a better way to get the selection you want. MAM really is the best.
This here! Myanonymouse is the best source for audiobooks.
What about their language selection?
Better than audiobookbay?
Far, far better than audiobookbay
That’s some high praise, ABB has been excellent for me. I’ll have to keep an eye out for open registration.
Audiobookshelf
Did this used to be iOS only?
I think prologue is iOS only.
This hits all the requirements. Streaming, saving locally, and Foss.
https://audiobookshelf.org such a great app. And it does podcasts.
The background image of the homepage makes me cringe, though. Horrible set of examples to showcase (Ayn Rand, Rothbard, Hayek, Adam Smith, …).
Then don’t listen to those examples…
I won’t. It’s just leaving the impression that the people running that homepage have some horrible political takes. Could have been avoided by chosing some less politically loaded examples, like Isaac Asimov, Charlotte Bronte, JRR Tolkien, George R R Martin or Mary Shelly.
Horrible, in your opinion… Genuine scholars will have books of differing opinions from their own on their shelf. Or else they would just be in an echo chamber. Besides, what does one’s political take have to do with the quality of the software that they work on? It’s like those that quit drinking Bud Light. Who cares who they sponsor, you like the beer or you don’t.
Genuine scholars will have books of differing opinions from their own on their shelf
Maybe. But these aren’t differing opinions, but all roughly the same horrible opinion. I like George Orwell. But putting him next to Rand, Hayek, etc. puts 1984 into a different context.
Besides, what does one’s political take have to do with the quality of the software that they work on?
The politics of these fellas strictly countradict the philosophy most FOSS projects follow. It’s not a big deal, but makes me do a double take.
It’s like those that quit drinking Bud Light.
Apples and oranges. Never said I’d boycot the software, or anything. It was jus a comment, chill.
If you want to host it, audiobook shelf is great. I use it for audiobooks, ebooks, and podcasts.
Other than that I’d just say get a library card and use Libby. If you have files in your phone playbook works but I don’t remember if its on fdroid.
Smart Audiobook Player
It’s a great app, but does it do streaming? I’ve only ever used it with local files on my phone.
No, I guess it doesn’t connect to any streaming service. I use Google Drive to store my books and just copy whatever I need from there.
If you have a library card they may use the Libby app for ebooks and audiobooks. My apologies for a non-piracy answer.
I like libby a ton but don’t love the waiting game for some selections
I’m with you. All the other replies seem to assume you already have the audiobooks you want. Are you trying to stream audiobooks you possess or source audiobooks?
Source them for sure
