I live in Georgia, and I have a very unreliable trash service, recycling pickup is extra and it is not cheap, the can they give you is actually incredibly small. And we get so much damn mail here. I saved up all the junk mail that I get for a month and that’s after I signed up for the FTC program to stop getting stupid commercial spam mail. I have an entire plastic tub of just trash junk mail that I get. I don’t even know what to do with it anymore. My paper shredder can barely handle it, I am constantly just storing tons of trash in my garage because there is no way I can keep up with it… I’m considering getting a commercial paper shredder to deal with this bullshit, because it helps to compact it into a smaller size but still, why should I have to deal with that? I am like so confused how to deal with all this crap. I ordered one thing from Amazon and it came with so much packing materials and cardboard filling in it, now I have to take a trip to my local dump that I don’t even have time for… Just to get rid of this stuff. We are literally in the midst of a trash crisis.
I’ve done all of these and now get minimal junk mail in the letter box.
- Contact your municipality and explain the situation and ask for their advice.
- Contact the people delivering the mail and ask them for advice.
- Contact your local gardening centre and ask them if they want paper for composting.
- Put up a no junk mail sign, then contact the companies who are still arriving in your letter box and share your thoughts about their uninvited junk mail. In Australia the last mile delivery of junk mail is often done by one or two companies who don’t want to get a bad name for ignoring your sign.

That’s interesting, I don’t believe that’s something we have in the US. Postal carriers here are not permitted to refuse to deliver junk mail. Doing so ends up falling under mail fraud here, and some postal workers have gotten into major trouble for doing things like removing junk mail or political fliers from people’s deliveries.

Burning garbage is illegal in Georgia in certain areas including my own. Plus, that’s not even remotely environmentally friendly, because there’s lots of ink and plastics. I’m truly at a loss. The only thing I could possibly think of is getting an industrial paper shredder for like $200 and just throwing everything in that

If any of the spam has a pre paid return envelope send some of that spam right back at them at their cost.
We should organize a week to mail shit back, so the spammers feel the pain.

Hell the poster may want to slide a few junk mail pieces that didn’t have a SASE with them into the ones that did just to get rid of them as well!

You can call the places sending you junk and ask to be removed from their mailing lists.
Google free paper shredding and recycling events in your area?
Get some big shipping envelopes, fill each one with as much junk mail as it will hold, mail them back to whichever companies send you the most junk mail. It works even better if any of the junk mail came with a prepaid return envelope.
I’m not sure I understand how this works? So you just cram everything into the junk mail envelope and that’s it?
You could return to sender what has addresses. And just return the junk that does not by dumping it in a blue drop off box, if you have one in your town.
Or do what others do, syphon off one tied off grocery bag of trash at a time each time you go to the gas station.
Or, fire pit.
