I think you’re confusing smart asses with wafflers.
Not typically, I’m usually talking fast trying to get an idea out of my head and communicated but they find the need to interrupt with low effort jokes.
Having lived in different areas of the US I do find it’s fairly regional. I can go back home and joke around and be a smartass, but if I tried it here people would find me extremely rude.

The reason I left Reddit was because the top comments-- no matter how serious the topic-- were dumb jokes and snide remarks. So in that context, no.

Well, since you ask, it likely depends on whether they’re humorously encouraging you to look at something from a different angle, or if they’ve just discovered a handful of situations that get a chuckle from people who only encounter it occasionally, them proceed to subject everyone to the same ‘second-think’ ad nauseum.
