Aug 13 (Reuters) - General Motors (GM.N), has been sued by the state of Texas, which accused the automaker of installing technology on more than 14 million vehicles to collect data about drivers, which it then sold to insurers and other companies without drivers’ consent.
Is Texas the first and only state to do this?
As far as I’ve seen, yes.
Paxton said GM’s data were used to compile “Driving Scores” assessing whether more than 1.8 million Texas drivers had “bad” habits such as speeding, braking too fast, steering too sharply into turns, not using seatbelts and driving late at night.
Fuck you for working the 2nd or 3rd shift, or having a social life
It’s not just GM, either. My insurance app, and the apps of two other insurance companies that I know of, do the same with night driving. I would get off of work and drive home, just to see the driving score get lowered. Twas bullshit.
What hours are they considering higher risk?
Night hours, which I’m not sure exactly when they start and stop, but I was seeing it for when I was driving home around 0000-0500 hours
What’s this? You USE the vehicle you’re insuring? Well that means we need to rais your premiums.

Did they not pay Ken a bribe or something? There’s no way he’s doing this for normal Texans
I’ve been watching Ken’s career for a while. And I am convinced he is not doing this for a bribe, but has a good plan to enrich himself better than that.
I have no clue how he will make money here ; I suspect most of it will be known years later
Oh, just like the last lawsuit against Meta, the citizens see nothing of it since it’s the state suing.
His insurance rate probably skyrocketed because GM sold his shitty droving habits to his insurance.
GM should just be like, “We’re just making sure no one is trying to get an abortion.” That’ll shut Texas up.
