For me it’s the Linux and Star Trek stuff. I’m curious to what communities you find annoying enough to block.
I block every sport one that comes across my /all
Politics and foreign language subs.
All the meme communities. I thought lemmy was going to be like reddit 15 years ago, but scolling all seems more like imugr.
I block the gay, male and trans nsfw communities. Im fully in support for their existence but its simply not the way I swing when I browse /all. that being said I hope those communities thrive and do well cause its really refreshing to see content for all.
TRANSPHOBE! BIGOT! RACIST! DIVERSITY IS OUR STRENGTH!!!1111!1!!1ONEONE
You’ll notice nobody is actually saying that. If they hadn’t added a disclaimer maybe someone would have, but swinging both ways has never been mandatory.
Lemmy.world not sending their best
Too many. I wish Lemmy had post tags, it would make things easier. There are communities I would be interested in, if I had any tools to help see the things I care about.
I’m left with more politics than I’d like, but that’s still preferable to anything I block.
Broadly speaking:
Memes Anime, mostly due to all the anime girl communities Sports Foreign language communities if I really can’t read anything, or I’m seeing too many posts in a row from them Communities that aren’t for memes but that are overrun with them. Sometimes if this is driven by a particular user I might block them instead Communities with porn in the name
The usual, politics, gay, whitepeopletwitter, news etc.
Most anything that is US-centric, like US-only news or US-only politics. Mainly 2 reasons:
- These threads are usually filled with heated, badly-moderated, frustrating discussions that lead nowhere.
- I am not american, so I cannot even vote or affect things over there in any way, which just makes hearing about the chaotic state of things even more frustrating.
Thus I simply elect not to see those posts at all.
I also block most meme communities, since they otherwise fill the All feed. I can easily just go on incognito/log out to view the all feed with memes if I want a laugh (it’s not that I dislike memes in general).
@Jezebelley@fedia.io Tankies and Far left mostly, I’m not American, so I also block a fair amount of America-centric communities, as I am just not a target of those
And memes, they’re usually unfunny to me
All the “middrif/glasses/office/has limbs-moe” communities. All the porn, furry, and celebrity stuff. Also Star Trek and Linux. Not because they were bad, but I felt like that was all I was ever seeing. Also the sports/team communities.
All the tankie (far “left”) shit. It’s all either bad faith arguments (trolling), blatant propaganda or people who never bothered to fact check the propaganda.
They also create an inordinate amount of communities, had to use the “block instance” button a lot.
NSFW stuff also gets annoying after a while, but that seems less prevalent. (Just had to block one instance to get 99%)
Looking at my block list, the AI images and niece music stuff also got added at some point.
Holy shit, do I have a fucking list. 🙄🙄🙄🙄
I see it, I block it, boy oh boy do I have a list
!
And they say fediverse does not have very niche communities…
Who knows how many are active, but yeah it’s really bad. I’ll be power scrolling All for random porn (I see something blurred out), I click on it, oh fuck, my eyes. Lol
Some of these names, too. It makes me laugh. “Welcome to… Gay Fisting”. 😆
Tankie is far left? I thought it was far right. I admit I never really was sure, though.
If you’re in America, do you see the entire rest of the g-20 as really far left? They do free healthcare and schooling in the g-20 but require almost as much tax as America, and I’m wondering if that makes them appear really far left given America’s parties are center-right and far-right and everyone could have that as their point of view.
I mostly see tankies as an authoritarian (far right?) group pretending to be far left. Or at least that’s how they brand it, even though they openly advocate for government confiscation of all property.
Have you ever spoken to a leftist?
Half of this comment section is people who probably consider themselves “centrist” but shriek tankie and block anybody even an inch left of biden. 🤣
Half of Lemmy, I would say. There’s a bimodal distrubution on Lemmy, centering around Leftism and Liberalism, with variance among those.
Basically only the communities in another language, I don’t have any issues with it, other than not wanting to translate news articles.
I do have one user blocker that is a troll or bot that is constantly posting political stuff, something like 30+ posts a day and nearly 80 comments a day, most of which are down voted to hell for obvious reasons.
I prefer to block individual users rather than whole communities simply because doing so could lead to an echo chamber of not proper mitigated.
However, I do block anything related to anime or waifu. And general porn.
I’m not prude, but Lemmy is where I come to discuss/debate a range of topics with others so I’d like to be able to open it in public.
I block a number of them:
- languages I don’t speak, just because I can’t read them anyway ;-)
- I’m banned from one, so I insta-blocked it.
- if I can’t comment, I don’t wanna see it.
Hmm. I guess I block anything where communication isn’t bidirectional. I have a television, so I don’t need passive consumption of non-interactive content here.
Tankies and non English communities
for me it’s the Linux and Star Trek stuff
💯👌
