The justice system seems to have forgotten we have an eighth amendment. So maybe we should just dump it, like the first half of the second.
My favorite thing is to ask a gun nut to recite the 2nd Amendment. It’s one sentence:
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.
They never know it. They usually kinda know it, but they never actually know how it’s written.
So I tell them that it’s this Marx quote:
Under no pretext should arms and ammunition be surrendered, any attempts to disarm the people must be stopped, by force if necessary.
And they believe me.
Congrats on being my first saved comment
That’s awesome. I am jealous you came up with something so brilliant.

Let’s not make this another liberal echo chamber.
Or let’s give a shit about giving human beings who need medical care the care they need so they don’t die.
(1) Welcome to Lemmy
(2) How is *checks notes* healthcare for inmates something we have to debate about? If you are incarcerated your well-being is the responsibility of the state. The government has to take care of you because you don’t get a choice in being there.
If these people wanted medical care then they should have thought about their life choices. Like being born in America.
Jails are just holding facilities for mental health patients who lack access to healthcare. We would solve a lot of issues if we had free and easy access to it. It would also cost a lot less.
