What’s next you tech bro wankers, is AI going to drink the pint for me?

… just when you thought they couldn’t force AI into any more things. The epitome of a solution in search of a problem

We need to go back to the time when comupting power was limited so everything needed to be hella efficient, cuz I feel like we have so much of it that we don’t know what to use it on.

This is what bugs me about our renewables transition. We should eventually be getting cheaper electricity due to solar overabundance and cost of production going to zero.

Instead, these data centers are gobbling up every free Watt the grid produces, not even paying premium for it, and we’re soaking up the costs due to the price of the demand.

This then incentivizes anyone with a home solar setup to never give back to the grid at all, because otherwise you’re feeding these assholes

I’m convinced this is on purpose. Politicians always say “we can’t get rid of dirty energy until we have enough clean energy to replace it.” Suddenly, when clean energy is good enough to replace it, businesses decide this shitty inefficient technology is needed, and it gobles up any power available. This creates a situation where we can never remove dirty energy because, no matter how much clean energy is produced, all the energy is also consumed.

I can’t know for sure this is on purpose, but the timing sure is convenient for them. It makes the excuse to never regulate dirty energy perpetual.

I also think crypto could have been part of this scheme, but it suddenly died because “AI” is even better for the task of wasting energy.

In Denmark you’re paying to give back to the grid anyway.
