President Donald Trump stood in the White House press briefing room Monday morning, declaring it “Liberation Day in D.C.” and announcing that he was taking over Washington, D.C.’s police force. Invoking Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rule Act, a rarely used provision of federal law, Trump said he was placing the Metropolitan Police Department under direct White House control and deploying the D.C. National Guard into city streets.

Don’t frame it like it won’t turn out to be a big deal. That’s a bad idea, intentional or not. Deploying military assets against American citizens should be considered a serious escalation every single time it happens.

This is part of their plan to put DC under federal control. Different objective, at least for now. He has taken direct control of DC’s police force in this case. He mentioned “sanctuary cities” in his speech, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he also takes over LA and other cities in the future.

This is different than LA. DC is not a city in a blue state. LA happened before Trump declared homelessness illegal.

We are days away from sending homeless people to concentration camps.
