Why are Lemmy posts and replies (almost?) emoji free? - I like the small emotion symbols, they add a softer human feel to things :]

I’ve never been against them globally, just depends on the community theme. They’re inappropriate on serious communities I think still.

String four 🤣🤣🤣🤣 together on a debate board and the urge reach through their screen and strangle them like Homer and Bart becomes intense.

I believe that there’s an inverse relationship between number of consecutive emoji and ability to hold a conversation. Doubly so if it’s four clowns.

I actually prefer emoji-lite conversation, meaning emoji is there to enhance the comment/text, and not mere spamming of one. Like for example

“i don’t think i can do that 😅” kinda feels lighthearted with the emoji than without it. But “i don’t think i can do that 😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣” is just pure obnoxious, to me at least. I’m not gonna chastise anyone for doing that of course.

    Also i do prefer kaomoji more ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ

No specific site, i just search kaomoji and then copy those i like, then on swiftkey i pin those copied kaomoji on the clipboard so it’s saved. Sometime i create one that i can’t find on those site, like this one
        ¯\_( ´ _ `)_/¯

It sort of have different feel as this shrug commonly found

        ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Because no one on lemmy has emotions of course :3 /j

(But ever since I figured out that entering LLAP into the compose key thingy results in the vulcan salute emoji (🖖) I have considered signing off my posts with that lol)

I’ve softened on them over time (I used to HATE posts with them as it felt weird/immature/lazy to me), but I’m still not big on using them on platforms like mbin. I still use my emoticons and the odd kaomoji, but I tend not to use emoji here. If I see a ton in one post, though, I still just skip whatever it is, typically.

I mostly use emojis as either a quick reaction or as a way of acknowledging that I read something someone I know sent me. They make a lot less sense in places like Reddit or Lemmy, where interaction is more impersonal and commenting doesn’t feel worth it unless you have something substantial to say.

I use them almost exclusively as reactions or to convey tone — and even then, the music notes get used most often, to indicate singing

since lemmy lacks reactions (beyond voting), I rarely have cause
