It’s very minor, but when I went to Death Valley, the tour guide talked about how after the hotel was built there the owners of the mining company that had built the hotel had the President of the U.S. visit and pitched donating the land to become a National Park. The guide asked why they would do that and people offered various altruistic reasons about preserving the land, but I said it was because no one else could build a hotel if it was a National Park and then they’d own the only park in what would be a bigger attraction. I was right.
