      Of course it’s not funny, when the child ends up with a name with 7 syllables that even the kid can’t pronounce until they’re 9 years old.

      It’s not particularly racist, unless you assume that only dark skinned people give their kids stupid long names. White people do that too.

      Maybe * you’re* the racist for making such assumptions.

        yeah, everyone is racist in a racist society. that doesn’t mean it is a smart move to reproduce racist narratives (by accident or intentionally).

        memes famously lack nuance. a black women (esp. if the meme fits so well with preexisting stereotypes) will be read as a black woman, making the whole thing a statement abt black women.

    In a previous profession, one of the people I worked with told me about A-A which was how they legally spelled the first name on the birth certificate.

    It was pronounced “Adashia” but they wrote it that way. Poor kid, first days of school must have been murder.
