I found this app while searching on github, thought some people here might be interested.
Is it on fdroid?
It just arrived in the IzzySoft “IzzyOnAndroid F-Droid Repo”. So if you added that to your repositories, you can now install it with the F-Droid App. It’s not in the main F-Droid repo, but AntennaPod is.
(Add extra repos with care.)
Yeah, thats sketch
It really isn’t. While the requirements are less strict than for the main repo, there is a review process to add a new app and I think they also have some automated checks. Additionally, Izzy (the maintainer of izzyondroid) is (was?) a member of the fdroid team.
Does this mean that every app there is legitimate? Of course not, but the same can be said about any other app store/repository.
That’s cool
Does this also sync with nextcloud/gpoddersync?
Its the same app pretty much
Yes I understand that, but ‘pretty much’ is not ‘entirely’, so I am looking for confirmation.
It looks like its just a change in the GUI, all the internals are 1:1. It even looks the same to the end user tbh.
Sync never worked for me in antennapod itself. Any tips?
Uhhhhh…
Where did you find that? They may be right if it’s a closed fork, but if it’s from something on GitHub i can’t see how it violates GPL?
Edit: just scrolled a bit down and saw another comment, with the full image, nvm.

Don’t know where that screenshot is taken from. Probably the App itself installed in some way, maybe the APK file through the github release?!
App settings
Interesting initiative and the description in the README is promising. However, I think the developer is screwing with the license. A cursory look tells me he wants to preserve original AntennaPod’s GPLv3 license while licensing his work as MIT, which is incongruent. I am not a lawyer but as far as I can tell, once a piece of code is GPLv3, all its next iterations must respect such license to the letter.
Installed it and in the settings you can see the following message.
Anyone willing to open an issue in both Antenna’s and Podcini’s repositories? I am mobile, can’t at the moment.
Thanks for sharing!
It should be ok to have your own changes and patches as another compatible license.
The real requirement is that when it’s all together and released if there is gpl code then the bundle license needs to be gpl. But you can have individual changes and patches as MIT license if you want.
That is correct. IANAL but you can license your patch-set however you want. Only thing is you can’t confuse people which part is which.
It turns out upstream did have the MIT license tucked in there, so it’s not like he added it, it was there. Care to join the discussion in the GitHub issue?
In all likelihood it will never, ever matter for this project
This is really cool, but why not upstream the changes instead of forking? Seems like a lost opportunity.
