Or when the skip button appears but only skips to the next ad
uBlock or ReVanced
Tubular also works pretty well
You get ads?
Shut your Pi-hole! My daddy had ads on the TV, and his dad had ads on the radio, and his dad had ads in the paper! I proudly allow ads and tracking!
I wish there was a way on Pi-hole to block those ads on TV yt
Smarttubenext
Ernie no!!
The wealthy aren’t a protected class, it’s not a hate crime.
Like hell they aren’t. They’re the most protected class.
This has never happened to me because I’ve been blocking ads for the last 15 years.
UBlock as others have said. Or on android newpipe works well.
uBlock Origin, not uBlock. They’re different.
As another one has said, try tubular! It’s newpipe but with sponsor block integrated.
So it just removes the part in the video that they talk about the sponsor? I’ve never heard of such witchcraft.
It’s a community driven auto skipper. Any video that is not brand new will probably be tagged by someone and you can just enjoy it. If you use it in an actual browser you can also tag sections. It’s great.
So far, every comment bar one has mentioned ad blockers.
You lot are as original and creative as the numpties making comments about the size of the pilot’s balls on aviation videos.
This is a post about unnecessary rage that absolutely noone has to deal with because everyone should use ad blockers. OP may or may not know, but the post suggests the later. I dont see how it is ‘unoriginal’ to comment about ad blockersin that case…
So far, every comment bar one has mentioned ad blockers.
The fact that almost everyone is saying the same thing is pretty much the definition of unoriginal.
It just shows what the focus lies on. A post full of comments recommending adblockers has far more impact than a single comment making the post seem dead.
Youre technically right that it is unoriginal, but I dont see how originality would matter at all in this case.
The one that worked in a pun was alright. This is the fediverse crowd though, this is very on-brand.
Oh, this is exactly what I expected. Perhaps not 100% ad blockers, but I was expecting most of them to be like that.
Nah, not enough Trek.
Is blocking ads considered a hate crime now?
Corporations are a protected class of people.
yt-dlp and mpv with sponsorblock still rocks.
is there a similar solution for casual browsing – meaning, allow the algorithm to pick which video plays next? I think yt-dlp is only effective if you know in advance what you’ll be watching
No, mpv integrates yt-dlp if it’s around. Rightclick copy link, alt+f2, ctrl+v, watch.
But there’s:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sponsorblock/
https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/453320-simple-sponsor-skipper
Never tried it tho.
sounds great, can you tell us how to set up yt-dlp with mpv ?
Install both, done? Or do you mean mpv-sponsorblock?
Edit: or on windows, add yt-dlp to the PATH variable.
Wish you could block ads from embedded youtube videos in Discord.
I just copy and paste the link into my browser. Lets me make use of sponsorblock that way.
I believe Vencord can do it
Haha jokes on you. I’ve been refreshing the website until the ad refuses to load. It just took 5 minutes
Whyyyyy do people do this?? It simply makes no sense.
DDOS ads.
If you’re getting ads on videos, you need to get you shit together and install uBlock Origin asap.
How well does it work? On my iPad, Safari Adguard can only black out ad content. (Screen is black during ad, and it displays how many seconds of ad is left)
Maybe try out Orion Browser. It has built-in ad-blocking and reliably gets rid of YouTube ads.
Thanks a lot, will try!!
Orion is a pretty nice browser! Quite customisable too. It’s made by the people behind Kagi, the private (paid) search engine.
Too add to this, it also supports Firefox extensions, so you can use ublock origin as well as sponsor block for a better experience.
Or suck it up and pay for the service if you can afford it.
uBlock Origin doesn’t accept donations. That’s the only product in this conversation worth supporting.
Nebula is a streaming service created by creators as an alternative to YouTube and is absolutely worth supporting. We’re not just talking about products here, we’re talking about the creators that make those products viable.
Ya know, I thought we were talking YouTube specifically, but looking back at the OP it just says video, and I guess my brain just injected the word YouTube on it.
So, fair enough, if you’ve got a media service that isn’t run by a bunch of human shitstains, then yea support their work.
If it’s YouTube, don’t give em a cent.
Just out of curiosity, what do yall expect to happen when the only response to an ad supported free tier of something, is to block the ads? I know YouTube/google aren’t great companies, but when you run an ad blocker you also deprive the creators you love watching any revenue from your view. So you hurt the creators. If you can afford it, just sub to premium and stop acting like you’re entitled to everything for free. I despise ads just as much if not more than the next dipshit, but complaining about them, when there’s myriad ways of avoiding them, just makes you sound like a dingus.
Obligatory shout out to Nebula as a cheaper alternative for non-fiction/edutainment content.
Or alternatively, run and adblocker and literally give the creators you watch 1$ per month and you’re still supporting them 100 times more than turning on ads would, and you still get to keep some semblance of privacy.
So your suggestion is to manage 15 subscriptions instead of one? Not every creator has a patreon or means of direct support. Not to mention some of these creators only upload once a year. And what happens when I want to watch someone new? Do I have to drop another creator to give this new person money
If you’re watching youtube and signed into an account you said goodbye to that level of privacy so long ago that an ad blocker isn’t going to do much.
Buying premium would absolutely do more than turning on ads, but it still would be nowhere near the efficacy of direct support. Most creators have methods of direct support, and those that don’t can easily be petitioned to start. For a creator that uploads once a year, perhaps you donate once per upload. Also, I don’t think it has anything to do with managing subscriptions and everything to do with dropping a little bit of money when you notice you’ve been enjoying something.
I don’t know why people are downvoting you tho.
Most creators have patreons. The big ones take sponsorships also. The pittance they get from any ads I may have watched do not matter.
So the alternative is to manage a subscription for every single creator I watch? Currently I sub to Nebula and YT premium. For ~$20 a month. If I were to go through and sub to every creator I watch’s lowest patreon tier, we’d be talking about dozens of individual subs totaling probably more than double what I pay now.
I’m not arguing against ad blockers but seriously, what do you think is going to happen if everyone uses an ad blocker and doesn’t pay for a service? You get Google pushing Manifest V3 as fast as they can. You get the huge arms race with the biggest tech firms doing everything they can to eliminate any and all kinds of ad blocking.
It’s not about the amount of money you individually generate for a creator. It’s about the net effect of everyone running adblockers.
I get the vast majority of people don’t use ad blockers. But just wow does it feel like people dont spend more than three seconds thinking about anything.
