Fun fact: in the French translation of the film Beauty and the Beast, Cogsworth’s name is Big Ben

At least the king of England isn’t demolishing Big Ben to build a ballroom funded by demanding money from the department of Justice

It’s totally on brand for a state of Islam (like Qatar or Dubai) to commission Massive Muhammed or Great Allah or whatever, a bigger standing mechanical clock named either after God or his prophet, just to show the superiority of their culture over western culture.

I’m surprised it hasn’t happened already.

    Extremely deceiving.
I’ve been with a lot of Mohammeds. None of them were massive.
    Totally average.
Not that I’m complaining. Simply conveying.

      • I’m from Guangzhou, not HK, so I guess my views are different. I view both the UK’s colonialism and CCP’s tyranny negatively. (Maybe UK was slightly less bad, but still… it was colonialism)

Also I didn’t seriously suggested they hate UK, its a joke given the name they gave to it.

      • I mean, there is a timeline where China became Democratic, and HK could’ve be thriving under this alt-universe’s democratized ROC rule.

But unfortunate, this timeline, we get shitty CCP tyranny, and they are working hard to eradicate the Cantonese language.

What’s that saying: “Out of the frying pan into the fire”? Yea HK is basically that lol.

Regardless, “Big Stupid Clock” is still a funny name, regardless of one’s opinions on the UK.

    fuck it.

The BELL is called big ben, not the tower

I vote to rename the tower as Big Mohammed while keeping the Bell’s name. Big Mo for short. Big Mo & Big Ben have a nice ring to it.

and it will give half the gammons an aneurysm.

    see no downsides

big ben is the bell, not the tower,. so renaming the tower to Big Mo (catchy name) wouldn’t change the Big Ben.

and it’ll give gammons an aneurysm.

We don’t need any official renaming, start calling the tower Big Mo, go around saying that Big ben is the bellend, and the tower is Big Mo. if it becomes a meme it might actually hold long enough to become a common term.

Eh, I believe there is a certain audience who also believe Birmingham is now part of the Birmingharam Caliphate, and that’s who will believe this nonsense.

        It’s also the Rochdale Herald.

Rochdale makes Northern Post Industrial Shitholes look like Star Trek San Francisco.

Source: grew up around there, the trains(and then Trams) run twice as fast through there.

This is happening everywhere. General public is unable to fact check things on social media and political interests take full advantage of it.

Not even a uniquely Anglo thing tbh. During the great refugee crisis of whatever the fuck year, Estonians got all riled up too. It spawned our very own ultranationalist conservative party (which of course spouts all the same nonsense as Trump for some reason), which was very popular for a while - until they got enough seats in the parliament and some government positions, and everyone figured out they’re not improving this - now they’re no longer the most popular party at least, but still more popular than I’d like. People were truly hateful, because tens of thousands of Muslims were going to overflow our tiny country!

So the only real data I can find on how many refugees we’ve received is from a non-profit called the Estonian Refugee Council, which says that between 1997 and 2021, 603 people were given refugee status, with the biggest countries of origin being Syria (199), Ukraine (93), Russia (66) and Iraq (42). This is over the course of 24 years, so not even just the refugee crisis itself, which was something like 2015-2016 I think? Even if all 603 actually came in one year, that’s not a lot of people even for our tiny country of 1.3 million. We actually have a much bigger problem with Russians than Muslims (by which I don’t mean that Russians in general are a problem, but that there is a sizable subsection of Russians who think we still live in the Soviet Union, only consume Russian state media, refuse to learn the Estonian language, etc. Of course this group is shrinking because younger people tend to be more integrated.)

But people are always gonna hate. Conservatives just gotta throw bait and their voters eat it up :/

Luckily for you, all those Muslim migrants then moved on to Germany, where they took our jobs while lazily living off our welfare, forced our cops to become racist, and turned our gay frogs straight again.

        I wonder why that is.

Maybe globalism is not so amazing for people living in a rich country. Its probably great for the government though. More tax income, more population.

In Sweden where I live, the government loves immigration for those reasons. We wont have enough old people to work and pay for pensions otherwise.

Yeah using immigrant labor to maintain economic growth isn’t globalism. The US did that with you swedes after all well before globalism was a thing. Globalism is about keeping people where they are and exploiting them through neocolonial financial instruments.
